SLR F2 arrived in Austin Texas for Round 8 of Season 9. Going into qualifying we saw another sensational lap from Benster who took another pole position and the 2 points with it. Griffiths would be narrowly behind and the driver impressing week after week FGE Atom rounding out the top 3. OwenHowell36 would be on reverse grid pole for the sprint.
Before the sprint even got underway Owen decided to take a spin (or 2) on the formation lap which I'm not sure if he knows or not, but he’s not meant to do that. Or cut the track on the formation lap (LP’s can be handed out for that 😉) The drama didn’t stop there, as Big Al found the wall before the first corner after contact with Para Quickz. FGE Atom took the lead with a mega opening few laps from the HiTech driver, but could he hold on? Well Griffiths and Benster who was also closing towards the front fast. Benster and Griffiths getting their elbows out Atom tried his hardest to pull away but Benster in the closing stages got past the HiTech driver and flew away into the distance and with that a fantastic victory for Benster and PHM Racing as they look to wrap up the championship soon. FGE Atom managed to hold onto 2nd place just about holding off championship leader Griffiths who rounded out the podium. Former champion Raceroller who returned to SLR F2 this week finished P4.
Onto the feature, Benster and Griffiths wouldn’t wait long to squabble for the lead as heading down into T1 they would be racing hard for the lead with Benster managing to hold the ART driver behind. Once DRS was enabled Griffiths re overtook Benster and pulled the DRS gap with ease. The strategy would also work in favour for Griffiths as he pitted first and only extended his gap in front by over 5 seconds! Benster who pitted a lot later had a lot of ground to make up but in the closing, stages managed to make his way back into 2nd place. Griffiths had taken a record breaking 39th SLR F2 Race win, beating SLR Ham’s record of 38 and surely no one can stop the ART driver taking back-to-back titles. Benster still picked up solid points with 2nd place and FGE Atom picking up another podium as he was battling Benster for 2nd in the closing stages but the PHM coming out on top.
Another round in the books then, next time out we head to the iconic city of Sao Paulo in Brazil, a track which has always been full of entertainment and great racing in SLR F2 and i have no doubts the trend will continue this season.
Until then, have a great week all!
As you were, CM x

SLR ALE retirement on track
Lap 12 - Feature
Verdict: 10 second and 3 LP to SLR ALE converts into Qualifying ban and 3 LP as retired
Simple retirement on track out of the corner before the pitlane. NEVER retire on track if you have connection problems safely bring it into the pit lane and retire.
PaRa Quickz has now exceeded the 6 LP mark so this is his official warning via Race Report.
