We're home! - F1 Silverstone

Round 9 of the SLR McKeon championship is at the home of SLR, Silverstone. A track that is loved by all has so many charms, and with its fast and twisting nature, this will surely be a good race with many looking to fight at the top.

Qualifying was dry, so all the drivers had full reign to push as hard as possible and find the limits of this 3.5km track and after the 18 minutes of action, it would be BMidzy to take pole position! An impressive lap with him being a decent bit clear at the top, does definitely show he has some real pace around here and he must be a bet for the race win here, a result that will definitely help his way back into the championship fight. Second place in the end was SLR Corey. Still as strong as ever, a good position to be in to challenge Midzy for the win and certainly keep his name in the championship fight should he be able to fix his multitude of incidents as of late. Rounding off the top 3 was Snypz SB. A strong quali performance from him, a good position to fight in the championship, and should he continue his good race performances, he will certainly put his hand forward to win the championship this season.

The race was also dry but with so many drivers all fighting for position a huge DRS train ensued and it was a battle of strategy and mind games of when to overtake or not to overtake, but after all 29 laps of action it would be Snypz SB to take another win this season! One of the main title prospects takes a leap forward. This certainly helps his bid to go and win this thing and with the consistency he’s been showing there’s no doubt he could be successful. Second place, in the end, was SLR Jam40, a driver who consistently has fantastic race pace and is always in the right place at the right time, gets another podium this season, seriously impressive and definitely a strong season for him considering his relatively recent switch to using no assists. Rounding off the top 3 was drast1k bLazE. With him only being promoted from Division 2 in recent races, this result is just straight up unbelievable, Well done to him and the first podium for him in McKeon, and with the practice he puts in week in and week out, I’m sure this is something we could come to expect.

A fascinating race of strategic placing and a game of cat and mouse to who can keep the positions at the end of the race culminated in some great action. Next up we are off to the Magyar Nagydig Grand Prix, Hungary. A track that is notoriously tricky to overtake only one real overtaking spot, and with the strategy being so important, the action will get hectic, and many will become desperate which will bring some action all would like to see. But due to the equal car issue right now, the break week is moved forward so hopefully in 2 weeks we can get racing in Hungary until then hope everyone has a great 2 weeks!

Division 2

Here we are then, SLR’s home grand prix, the British Grand Prix. So it is only fitting that we had some shocking weather conditions. This race is well worth a re-watch over on the YouTube channel.

Qualifying was a lovely sunny and dry session where the drivers were really able to show how tight this Division 2 grid is. Showcased by the fact that the top 4 drivers were separated by a mere 0.034. It was Scar B0rga who claimed pole followed by our championship leader UKBeastAssassin who was just 0.008 behind.

Onto the race and as mentioned earlier the good old British weather was in full effect, the monsoons had arrived. Zero strategy here for the drivers it was either the full wet tyres or a early DNF. The question going into the race was did any drivers sacrifice their qualifying position to have a strong setup for the heavy rain conditions. Something it became very apparent one driver did not.

So as the 5 red lights go out we get underway with a very slow and cautious start. Miracisiously all 20 drivers made it through the first couple of corners. I thought I must be dreaming as this isn’t the Div 2 I give up my Friday nights to watch and then thankfully a Alpha Tauri went flying off in the background. It was SLR Allen on his return to a full time seat. Luckily he managed to keep it out of the wall and get back to racing. Back up at the front Scar B0rga was able to hold onto his lead through sector 1 and could begin on building a gap to those behind as Beast was having to withstand heavy pressure from Active JMC for P2.

Somewhere between Luffield and Woodcote THATGUY managed to lose his front wing be it through contact with another car or the wall. This resulted in a VSC which just allowed everyone a chance to catch their breath.

There was action everywhere with drivers throwing it down the inside on one another for fun, far too many overtakes to even know where to start. One thing became apparent really quickly and that was Active JMC didn’t set his car up for the wet weather. For a moment I thought the X91 Silverstone - Milton Keynes bus had managed to find its way onto the track with how slow the Alfa Romeo was going. It allowed our top 2 to build a real lead over the chasing pack.

Lap 7 and 3rd-8th were basically pushing one another around the track and it was at this point where F1ABQW3RTYYY ended up spinning off due to contact. At the same time SLR Liamm was finally able to get past JMC but had a 10.7 second gap to second place to claw into if he wanted more than 3rd.

FINALLY Lap 11 and Kislesko managed to get past the X91 JMC and up into 5th place. He went the long way around at Stowe for what was a fabulous overtake. JMC did try and retake the position down the inside at club but was unable to get enough traction on the corner exit.

A lap later and we finally have our first full safety car. LSW L3G3ND44 continues his streak of non point finishes as he crashes out. This is an opportunity which everyone used to get some fresh boots on their cars. There was a real split of drivers playing it safe and putting another set of the full wet tyres on however equally a good amount wanted to try the inters.

We get back underway on lap 17 and Scar B0rga is able to catch everyone behind napping with a early restart. All eyes for these final 10 laps are on VapidCoot74 and FRL Kirito who are the only 2 drivers within the top 10 to be on the inters, it still looks very wet out there. They have either played a master stroke or cost themselves any points.

It almost immediately looks like a great call as Vapid is able to breeze past Kislesko down the inside at Brooklands with Kirito right behind having a look as well. Kirito is able to get past Kislesko too around the outside of the Vale chiance with what can only be described as a wonderful move by the Ferrari driver.

While all of that is happening it is all over for the X91 JMC as he retires in the pits, it must be time for some strike action or something of the like.

Lap 18 and we have a change for P3. Liamm gets a massive tank slapper as he heads onto the Wellington straight which allows SLR Mash to just cruise past. It is worth noting that Mash started 16th on the grid so to be up in the podium position is nothing short of impressive. It got worse for Liamm later on lap 18 when VapidCoot set him up perfectly through Stowe for a switch back and arguably overtake of the day. Expertly done by Coot and now just left him a second off the podium positions on what were becoming the correct tyres.

Yet again while it is all happening behind Scar B0rga has dipped and has a 3 second lead over UKBeastAssassin who is still just about holding onto P2. Although as we tick over to lap 20 Mash, Coot and Kirito are right on his gearbox. Coot tries a overtake around the outside of Copse on Mash but thankfully lifts before any contact occurs. But he comes to rue his missed opportunity only a few corners later as Kirito catches him napping on the entry to Vale and sends one down the inside.

A lap later, lap 21, and Coot repays Kirito with a move of his own down the inside at Vale to reclaim 4th place. All of this squabbling between themselves has allowed Beast and Mash to build a slim gap. The pair of them need to start working together because drivers further down the field on the inters begin lighting up the timing boards with laps which are well over a second quicker than those on the wet tyres. The cross over has come with 4 laps remaining.

Lap 24 and my oh my what is going on! Into Brooklands Beast, Mash and Coot are basically side by side and out of nowhere Kirito joins the party. There is some minor bumping and grinding from all 4 drivers and Kirito looks set to claim P2 for himself out of Luffield. BUT Beast gets a great exit and they go side by side down the old pit straight. When it looked like neither driver was about to lift into Copse. Kirito who was on the outside lifts ever so slightly and switches back to the inside of Beast. YET AGAIN it seemed Kirito had P2 all wrapped up but Beast managed to keep with him on the entry to Maggotts and Kirito finally had to concede he was not getting past just yet. Some breath-taking stuff and fair play to both drivers here.

With 2 laps to go after all of that action Scar holds a 5 second lead, so the win is all wrapped up unless there is one final shocking turn to come in the closing stages. Kirito is finally able to claim P2 with a move down the inside of Beast at Brooklands. However with a 3 second time penalty Kirito really needs to put the hammer down to maintain P2. Disaster strikes for Coot and Mash in behind. Coot picks up his first pen so 3 seconds and Mash picks up his second so heads into the final lap with 6 seconds worth of pens.

Yet another move for Coot into Stowe as he is able to get past Beast for P3. But like Kirito ahead he needs one hell of a final lap to pull 3 seconds on Beast behind to retain P3. Looking ahead in a lap Kirito was able to take 1.3 seconds out of Scars lead. So perhaps the win isn’t all wrapped up yet for the Merc driver.

Coming into the final half of lap 26 and the gap between Scar and Kirito is under 2 seconds, it might be little too late for Kirito but if there was one more lap he very well may have been challenging for the race win.

So for the final time Scar B0rga rounds Club and takes the race win by 1.3 seconds over FRL Kirito. More importantly for the Ferrari drive he managed to hold onto P2! He built himself a 3.3 second gap to UKBeastAssassin who pinches P3 off VapidCoot74 because of his penalty.

Haze Vs THATGUY Vs VapidCoot - NFA

After reviewing the evidence provided, the stewards have concluded that due to the conditions there is not a clear enough view of the incident for any penalties to be handed out. If any of the drivers involved have a better view of this then we urge them to appeal to try and come to a more accurate decision.

Owen Vs Haze - NFA

Owen is trying to regain control of his car and Haze goes for a gap that closes due to the lack of control that Owen has after his moment. This is just an unfortunate incident and so no penalties will be awarded for this.

Kirito Vs Owen - 5s and 1LP to Owen for spinning another car.

1LP has been given as the drivers are just getting back up to full racing speed after a VSC. 5s has been given though due to the time loss to Kirito as a result of the collision.

ChicknRosery vs BadOtterTv - Lap 7

Outcome: NFA

Otter gets a huge run, he is a car length ahead of Rosery just before Stowe. The Mercedes tries to hold it on the inside, but he understeers into the rear right tyre of Otter. We don’t see it as a fault of the AlphaTauri driver.

ChicknRosery vs SLR Vettel - Lap 18

Outcome: NFA

From what we see, SLR Vettel is holding a straight line, but his car is lagging. This distracts ChicknRosery who wants to have the best line to go for a move at Stowe, but just drives into the back of Vettel in the process. Unfortunately for him he gets damage as well, but we can’t penalise Vettel for having slightly distracting connection issues.
