Walls = Not Fun - Monaco

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

Round 5 of the SLR McKeon championship is at Monaco. The biggest challenge on the calendar for all drivers is, the walls ever close, and with the first corner and the tough chicane midway through the lap easy to cut, this track holds many challenges and requires a lot of confidence to master and drive fast around here, so let’s see how these guys can handle the track.

Qualifying was a Full Wet session making the challenge of the circuit even greater and with it, brought many shocks with the positions on the grid, but the man in the end to take pole position would be Snypz SB. For the leader of the Driver’s championship, this is a good result to add to the resume this season, this definitely puts him in good stead to be able to take the win today and extend his lead even further, with being one of the most consistent guys this season, he could be a difficult guy to beat. Second, in the end, was SLR Corey, another good quali for the Haas driver, really showing off some fine consistency even when the track is treacherous, but let's see if he can make his rival have a blunder and close the gap in the Drivers championship. Rounding off the top 3 was SLR EVVO, a very impressive lap from the Ferrari driver, one who has struggled to find himself in the points for a multitude of reasons, he finds himself here in the top 3 at this track of all places so he must feel pretty confident that he can get a good result here.

The race was dry but it was not short of it’s thrills with many drivers finding out the harsh nature of the track with a few making tiny mistakes that ended their races prematurely, after all the action of 4 safety cars, it would be SLR Corey who would take another win this season! He really is showing some good form in races and must be a happy figure considering how bad some of the previous seasons have gone so he must feel that he can win the whole thing. Second place was NRX Finn. From starting P13, I'm sure this was a result he was not expecting at all, one that is welcome after some recent good form, and this gets him some hard earned points and he is certainly not out of this championship so who knows it’s so closely contended, let’s hope the Haas driver can continue these great drives. Rounding off the top 3 was SLR Ham19. Another driver who had a subpar quali session recovered very well to end up on the podium was very impressive from him and a result that shows he has so much pace and is in definite contention to fight for this championship hard with Corey and Snypz. Honorable mentions would be MeRkz47 who may have been down low in the grid for most of the race but kept his nose clean, kept penalty free, and with the safety car helping him out, gained so many positions, a clever race from the Mercedes driver and one that will help with his points tally.

ZyDRAD vs SparksYT15 - Lap 31 - Spinning Another Car

Outcome: 5 seconds +1LP to SparksYT15

Sparks in the clip doesn’t brake hard enough and unfortunately hits ZyDRAD spinning him in the process so we think he is at fault here.

Division 2

IT’S RACE TIME… IT’S THE MONACO GRAND PRIX…

Apart from the fact it was qualifying first. Overall though, would championship leader dRaSt1k bLaze extend his already monumental lead? Well let’s pray you can keep sane till the end of this thing and then you can read the results.

Qualifying pt1

Yep, there’s 2 parts to this because the fantastic game created by EA Sports and Codemasters decided to brick it and showed they were incapable of handling the streets of Monte Carlo on a Friday night. So now we head to…

Qualifying pt2

As you could probably expect, it was Blaze who took pole by a whopping half a second of which I can presume is the largest gap this season. SotierClock was featured in a HAAS sandwich with OwenHowell in 2nd and UKBeastAssassin in 4th.

The Race

As we went to the five red lights, THATGUY certainly was him as he stormed from 6th on the grid to 4 by turn 1 and gave it a few seconds before the first yellow flags of the race. A Leclerc-like curse for the Ferrari of LSW L3G3ND as he found his way into the nearest wall.

Come the exit of the VSC period, and Blaze, championship and race leader, had managed to pick up a speeding drive through penalty! A nightmare start compared to his dream qualifying.

SLR Southerner in the McLaren was next to find the wall at the exit of Rascasse, causing not only the second dnf of the lap (all this on lap 1 btw), but the second vsc. A second driver through for speeding came F1ABQWERTYYYY’s way meaning we had 2 of everything and this race was secretly becoming the second version of Noah’s Ark, 2 dnfs, 2 drive throughs and 2 vsc periods.

Lap 9 took away SLR Mash’s hopes of finishing as his final destination was the wall, this time losing the car coming out of the Piscine section but bringing out the full safety car as opposed to the virtual safety car for the previous 2 crashes.

At this moment in time, the game thought it was funny to have a breakdown, kicking multiple drivers, and disqualifying Kislesko for attempting to rejoin. Blaze also took the moment to overtake Owen after he went too deep out of the tunnel, whether that was a game problem or a personal problem I’m personally not too sure on.

Lap 13 was when we went racing, but only until the Nouvelle chicane for VapidCoot to continue what he wouldn’t mind me calling his season so far frustrating. 5th car not finishing this race.

Lap 16 was enough for M McLoughlin, although not entirely his fault, as a slow Adrian caught him out coming through Louis Chiron, giving us a 6th car out and another full safety car. Blaze finally pit under this safety car and only lose 4 places once he came out.

After a decently long safety car, Owen got us under way going onto lap 21. Blaze’s charge took a bright turn, finding his way to 4th on lap 24, and 3rd lap 25 picking off Haze, Zach and GoldenEggFryer all in the process. Owen’s race took a negative turn, a 3 second penalty making his defense of the lead a real task with Clock and Blaze appearing rather quickly.

Lap 31 was when Blaze took P2 as clock had a moment going into turn 1, but quite the save to keep it out of the wall.

Beast was the final car out of the race, a incident in turn 1 finishing him off 2 laps early.

But one driver (or 11 if you look at the full picture) who would take the win would go to Blaze to continue his dominance on Division 2, playing the smart game to not take any more penalties and stay behind Owen would take P3 after his penalty. Clock would take second, benefitting from Owen. Zach took home a solid P4 for the Aston Martin team, with Haze, Liam, GEF, ThatGuy, QWERTY and Kirito rounding out the top 10.

Join us next week in that same old Friday 8pm slot as we head to Barcelona to tackle the new layout of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya… and witness Blaze probably win again 😉.

FRL Kirito Vs F1ABQW3RTYYY - 5s and 1LP to F1ABQW3RTYYY for causing a collision.

F1ABQW3RTYYY goes into the hairpin a bit too hot and pushes FRL Kirito into the wall, causing wing damage to the Ferrari.

lofty012 vs EchoAA23 - causing a collision - Lap 35

Outcome: NFA

Here we think this is just a racing incident Echo with the new tyres tries to use it to his advantage and gets up to the Aston rear wheel and Lofty turns in normally not giving any room to Echo causing the touching, so we feel here this is just old tyres VS new.

SLR James96 vs Baggiefan 1995 vs Fat Ted24 - Lap 1 Incident

Outcome: 2LP to Fat Ted24

Here we think that Fat Ted doesn’t turn enough for the hairpin and then comes across too far trying to defend against James and gives him no room whatsoever, giving him more damage, but due to him retiring, we feel a time penalty here isn’t viable.
