Title battle heats up at Budapest!

We are now into the second half of the SLR season five as we go to Hungary for round eight! Our drivers are back after a week off all hoping for great success especially if you are one of the top four in the Championship as things really begin to heat up!

One Shot Quali! For the eleventh time in his F2 career Crispy2001 takes pole but only just! 0.006 was the gap to reigning champion Raceroller. The top four were separated by less than two tenths in what proved to be a tight qualifying as we saw UKBeastAssassin and SLR Cech on row two. SLR Dodgy was your best Evo qualifier with an impressive sixth.

The Sprint! OwenHowell was your pole sitter from SLR Southerner with his fifth place challenging rival Division in third who is joined on row two with J Lee Menz. Championship leader SLR Darnell invalidated his quali lap so meant he was starting at the back but proved no problem in the early stages already making up seven places in the first lap. It was all tightly packed with OwenHowell leading the train. SLR Southerner was the threat until a spin ended his chances of a win and even points. Division was now the threat who got the lead just past the halfway mark. From here Owen would start to fall with a spin later on. The pack would remain tight all through which led to drama with some of our championship contenders! UKBeastAssassin would lose crucial places due to a disconnect, Crispy would spin due to contact with fellow title rival Raceroller then Raceroller himself found himself facing the wrong way after contact with F1 Mckeon championship leader Midzy15. Whilst all this was unfolding Division stretched his lead to win his first ever SLR F2 race on the fifty third attempt! SLR Darnell finished in a brilliant second from seventeenth on the grid and back on the podium was J Lee Menz! The Carlin driver would just edge UKBeast, SLR Cech and the recovering Midzy15 to the final podium position. Monkey in seventh and SLR Dodgy in eighth were your final points scorers with the latter also taking the Evo Sprint win despite two spins on lap one.

The Feature! Away we went and we saw plenty of contact towards the back. Baggiefan and Monkey would connect and ETSR Jensen on his F2 debut round would later chuck it in the tyre wall later in the same lap. Crispy was already pulling away from Raceroller until the VSC was deployed following an SLR Cech crash coming out of the last corner. We saw more contact between Crispy and Raceroller! The Prema driver reacted brilliantly to the restart to look on the outside of turn one but contact with Crispy gave him front end plate damage to end chances of a great result for the scot. Further down Midzy and Darnell were yet again making their way through the grid after a poor qualifying. Halfway stage Crispy had a two second lead from UKBeast who also had a comfortable gap to an impressing SLR Dodgy. SLR Bennett on lap ten was your first driver to pit. Lap fourteen and everyone has stopped. Crispy remains ahead with still a healthy lead which rapidly grew as the Dams driver released some Alien like pace. UKBeast was second with Menz in third but only until a spin a couple of laps towards the end. SLR Dodgy would lose a few places due to a disconnect which proved costly as a first podium seemed on. Midzy was locked in making brilliant moves late on until it came to an abrupt end with a spin and a crash on the last lap. Crispy was your winner once again! A dominant victory where he would finish almost eight seconds ahead of UKBeast in second. MasonGammon impressed to take third to hold off the threat from SLR Southerner who took fourth. Division finished fifth ahead of SLR Dodgy who took the Evo feature win in sixth. Raceroller leaves Hungary disappointed with a seventh just ahead of title rival SLR Darnell. Menz made it a double points scoring round in ninth just ahead of OwenHowell taking the last point.

Pre stewards investigations the top four in the championship is only separated by twenty four points……less than a feature wins worth. Crispy was also now your championship leader heading into Belgium where we all hang out for a Spa! Whilst that championship is tight our other championship could already be won in the Evo Class where SLR Dodgy can clinch it. See you at Belgium!

Crispy2001 vs RaceRoller22 Lap 11 - Sprint

Verdict: 5 second pen 2 LPs to RaceRoller22

Sufficient room isn’t given by roller to crispy resulting in crispy being spun.

RaceRoller22 vs BMidzy Lap 14 - Sprint

Verdict: 10 second pen 3 LPs to BMidzy

We as stewards are viewing this clip as causing a collision although being at the same corner as the Crispy2001 v RaceRoller22 incident. In the manor BMidzy completely cuts RaceRoller22 at the apex of the corner giving no sufficient room at all after making the overtake.

RaceRoller22 vs Crispy2001 Lap 4 - Feature

Verdict: NFA

Crispy just about gives the sufficient room. Roller car seems to get unsettled resulting in wing damage. Warning to Crispy2001 for the amount of times he’s moved across the straight going down to T1.
