Last round of the seventh season of SLR Formula 2 and both drivers title and Evo Class title are yet to be won! SLR Corey who unbelievably was serving a race ban has a twenty seven point lead on SLR Jam and SLR Charlie and SLR Marsh were tied on points for the Evo title. Who will come out on top in both?!
One Shot Quali: SLR Griffiths takes the first points of the round! Crucial in his mission to take fourth in the drivers standings. Crispy qualified second on his return with the championship chaser SLR Jam in third just ahead of SLR Southerner.
The Sprint! Evoke Replays is your reverse grid pole sitter. After turn three SLR Jam was already up into fourth! Lap later he would then find himself in third. Crucial for his title hopes. Lap four we saw a bit of chaos where three drivers would be involved in an incident coming out of the last corner promoting Jam up into first after being fortunate to escape unharmed. Lap later Griffiths and Evoke Replays would collide down the back straight to place Southerner and Para Quickz into the podium places. For the rest of the race the only movement was from Benster recovering from that incident on the last corner a few laps before. In doing so securing a brilliant third position. Jam takes the sprint win! Probably his most important in his SLR F2 career. SLR Southerner would take second place just over a second behind. SLR Marsh would take the Evo win after Charlie found himself caught up in a couple of incidents setting up a winner takes all in the Evo fight!
The Feature! For the last time this season we are away! After the first lap the outgoing SLR Darnell already found himself up into sixth! It was a case of so far so good for Jam in third place. The front five for the first part of the race showing great pace not separated by much at all. Crispy and Southerner on the softer set of tyres. The UNI Virtuosi driver would blink first and would slightly lose out as SLR Darnell retired to make it a double DNF round on his last round before a hiatus to bring out a safety car. On the restart we had SLR Bennett and SLR James at the front. A lap into the restart Bennett and Griffiths would collide almost taking out Jam in the process. The Campos driver lucky to escape again…..today must be his day! Top three for the remaining laps were Jam, Benster and Southerner. Benster would take the lead in the remaining laps with Jam not having to defend hard as he knew he was doing enough to secure the title! Come the end Benster is your race winner, Southerner finishes third but in between them we have our first ever Two time SLR Formula 2 Champion! SLR Jam has done it! Showing unreal form to come back from at one point almost eighty points behind SLR Corey in the Championship. Further down SLR Charlie takes ninth in the race which also secured him the Evo feature win crowning him the Evo Class season three Champion!
Another brilliant season over and done with! Many congratulations to all this seasons champions where history was made! Will we see more next season? Season eight isn’t too far away! Will we have a new champion? Will we see another two time champion? Or will we have our first triple time champion?
