Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to yet another race report for Elite! We raced at the Red Bull Ring in the Styrian hills this past weekend, with lots of hard racing, overtaking, and crashes across all divisions. Beginning with the Elite race, which was a wet race similar to Monaco, adding an extra challenge for the best drivers in SLR. With that in mind, let’s dive into the results!

A late Safety Car spiced things up, but this didn’t stop Hoopolicious bouncing back and taking the win, a flawless and controlled drive for the American. Xx JamHam xX came home for another podium, finishing in P2 after a close battle with P”tree” man ZyDRAD close behind. HamJam2002 recovered from 8th on the grid to finish in P4, with the Mclaren of gh03t C0LT behind in 5th. ABR Freeman came home in the other Mclaren in 6th and with the fastest lap, recovering from a Q2 elimination to come through the field, and challenged his teammate in the closing stages of the race. SLR Niki came home for his second points finish of the season in 7th, with BDunk having an impressive race, coming from last to 8th. MeRkz47 brought his Red Bull across the line closely behind in 9th, with LP Smoke bringing home the first point of his season in 10th.

SLR Southerner is inching closer and closer to points in elite, finishing 1 second off Smoke for P11, with KevinGT and bezzas1 behind in 12th and 13th respectively. A return for SLR Darnell saw him finish in 14th, with Midzy15 rounding out our classified finishers, although Midzy was unable to complete due to hardware issues. Our non-finishers were: PaRa Quickz, raceroller22 (shoutout to the Brit for spinning out from the lead in the F2 Sprint race on Thursday AND causing a lobby restart. I was kindly asked to include that since it wasn’t mentioned in the F2 race report, so you are welcome), Crispy2001, I VR46 I, and SLR Rando.

That does it for Elite this time around. We hope to see you for the British Grand Prix around Silverstone next week, an event I’m sure the majority of the SLR community is looking forward to! Stay safe and well everyone.

Friday’s race in Austria marked the midway point of a hotly contested division 1 season. The first 10 races saw 5 different winners, with the last 3 races being won by 1 man, brindyboi67. The goal was therefore simple for the other 16 drivers racing in the styrian hills. Knock the Williams driver off his perch. Qualifying was far from a dull affair and as expected the field was extremely close. Any mistake is heavily punished at Austria. Season 5 Division 2 champion Bennett628 was the first heavy casualty, getting knocked out in Q2 for the first time since Australia. Championship hopeful SLR Semm continued his poor qualifying streak, bottling every one of his laps in Q2 to line up 14th. Q3 was fiercely competitive, with 4 drivers within a tenth of each other at the top. Cechthisout set the pole time of a 1:02.821, his first ever SLR Pole position. Brindyboi67 set a great lap but it was only good enough for P2 this time, with Riggsey x and SLR Dylan closely behind.

Onto the race. Could cech convert this pole position into his first victory of Season 6? The Ferrari driver got the better of brindy off the line, with the championship leader looking back rather than ahead. Brindy, Dylan and riggsey went 3 wide into turn 1! Riggsey came off the best, moving up to p2 with Dylan closely following him but brindy dropped all the way down to the midfield. Not the start he needed if he wanted to get another victory. The rest of the first stint was about cech and riggsey. The two leaders were scrapping, overtaking each other every other lap. Going into the pit stop phase, the Renault of riggsey was leading, with cech in P2. SLR Mckeon and SLR Dylan closely followed with Dylan’s teammate bunny a few seconds back in P5. After the pit stops the leaders approached some traffic in the shape of Cech’s teammate ARL Predatorzz and SLR Semm. This traffic would play a huge part in the outcome of the race. Riggsey outbroke himself trying to overtake Predz and nearly collected Semm, having to take avoiding action. He picked up a penalty for his troubles, losing a position to cech in the process. He then lost a further couple of positions to Mckeon and Dylan, with the 3 of them losing DRS to cech in the process. In the meantime bunny had closed up to the top 4, making it a 4 way scrap for second place with cech having a decent lead, although he had 6 seconds of time penalties.

The drivers in P2-P5 exchanged positions multiple times, allowing cech to extend his gap to over 3 seconds to Dylan, who was lying in P2 entering the final few laps. This wasn’t yet enough for the win though, as Dylan hadn’t got a single penalty. It therefore surely seemed like the win was Dylan’s, but in league racing never say never. SLR Mckeon made a very late braking move on SLR Dylan on lap 30, with the two of them making contact. This caused Dylan to lose multiple places and valuable time. It would then go from bad to worse for the Mercedes driver as he picked up a time penalty of his own then lost it and retired from the race. A chance to close up on brindy in the championship missed. Meanwhile Cech ahead was faultless in the lead of the race, crossing the line to take his first victory since USA Season 5 and propelling himself up into potential championship contention. Bunny had worked his way up to P2, ending the race 0.8 seconds behind his close friend after penalties, claiming his second successive P2 finish. Riggsey ended a poor run of form to claim a well deserved P3 to round off the podium places. Further down both Brindyboi67 and SLR Semm joined Dylan in also scoring zero points, meaning none of the current top 3 in the championship scored anything. A great result for the neutrals! An honourable mention has to go to SLR Vandoorne, ending the race in P4 after starting P10, with another mention to ARL Predatorzz and Bennett628, finishing P7 and P8 due to being the only two drivers to make it through the race penalty free. A fantastic feat round such a tight track. Next up is the home track of many drivers in SLR, Silverstone. A race I’m sure many of the drivers will be dying to win.

ERM Massey vs SLR Connor - Dive bomb

Connor was experiencing internet troubles when the incident occurred, however due to a lack of evidence from Connor we cannot substantiate this. ERN Massey however was largely disrupted by the incident being half spun and losing positions. As a result the stewards are awarding a 10 second penalty (converted to 3 LPs as Connor DNF) as ERN Masseys race was heavily disrupted, it is unfortunate that the game was glitchy.

3 LPs

SLR Dylan vs SLR McKeon - Squeezing

The incident that occurs at turn 3 is one where Dylan is unable to turn into the corner. He is unable to make the corner as a result of McKeon placing his car in the middle off the corner at such an angle as to prevent Dylan from turning in. McKeon runs wide and goes deep meaning Dylan cannot turn in to make the corner, this leads to Dylan losing multiple positions as he is forced to go to the dirty run off area. Had there been a wall at turn 3 and not a run off area Dylan would have been forced into a wall, the stewards would like to remind drivers that whilst there might be a run off area, neither driver should have to use it. A cars width should be provided to allow for fair and competitive driving.

5 Seconds & 1 Licence point to SLR McKeon

SLR Dylan - Retiring on track

Dylan did retire on track and as such will be given a Qualifying ban for his next race.

Benz vs Rockamad - Squeezing off track (lap 1)

Outcome: 5s + 1LP to Rockamad

Reason: Rockamad clearly moves unnecessarily across on Benz into the Braking zone of T4, forcing the McLaren off track and into the wall. It was determined by the stewards that the claim of damage being sustained was inconclusive due to the HUD not displaying wing damage, but the stewards accept that damage may have been sustained from the incident. Because of this uncertainty we cannot give more than the standard squeezing pen of 5s + 1LP is maintained in this case.

Zachisbeast vs LSW Legendz - Quali Block

Outcome: Racing Incident

Reason: Legendz spins in the pit lane exit after tagging the wall, leaving his car blocking the pit exit. A Game mechanic then resets his car to track, and this is the cause of the quali block. Therefore, it would be unfair to penalise Legendz.

Cal M Smith vs Benz - Contact (lap 36)

Outcome: NFA

Reason: Benz attempts a move into T7, and comes off worse. The time lost by Cal was negligible and had no impact on his finishing position, therefore no further action was taken.

Zach vs Barlow - Causing minor wing damage (lap 1)

Outcome: Racing Incident

Reason: While the view of the incident from Cal’s clip that was submitted for the incident was poor, due to the rotation of his steering wheel, it was enough to determine that Barlow had lost the rear of the car on the kerbing of T8, and therefore veers into Zach’s car as a direct consequence. The stewards feel that a driver should not be penalised for incidents caused directly after losing control of their car, remaining consistent with the outcome of the Spain GP incident involving Igor where a similar outcome occurred. Thus this is ruled as a racing incident.

*EXTRA STEWARDS INCIDENTS

**The following are incidents that were submitted to the stewards on time, but not picked up by the stewards until the day of the meeting due to a communication error between the driver submitting the clips and the steward they sent the clips to.

The defendants in these incidents have as a result been given 1 free appeal for each incident they have been involved in - in order to maintain fairness throughout the process.

To avoid this in the future, please ensure you message the stewards via DISCORD if you submit clips via the Xbox live messaging service.**

Blaze vs LSW Legendz - Squeezing (lap 1)

Outcome: NFA

Reason: Both drivers could be seen as at fault for the contact made, plus no damage was sustained by Blaze, and he also completed the same move to get ahead of Legendz into the braking zone.

Blaze vs LSW Legendz - Squeezing/spinning another car (lap 13)

Outcome: 5s + 1LP

Reason: The stewards determined that Blaze was not left enough room at the apex of T4, after Legendz attempted a move around the outside. Legendz’s line into the corner was that of the racing line (or very similar) before the contact was made forcing his car out wider making the incident seem less bad than it was originally. 5s + 1LP have been awarded for squeezing Blaze into a half spin, accounting for the combined poor execution of the overtake plus the negligible time loss suffered by Blaze.

On to the Redbull Ring in the Styrian hills of Austria for race 11 in division 3 for the first dry race in what seems weeks. It was a Renault lock out at the front row with SLR J3st3r and SLR Hyperz with SLR Dolph1n in the Alpha Tauri in P3 and SLR Colden in the Mercedes in P4 for the start of the race. AS the race got underway it was SLR J3st3r that led the field through T1 without any incidents as SLR Dodgy made up 3 places into P4. Into T2 and SLR Hyperz seemed to brake quite hard and slow right down as SLR Colden behind had to take evasive action with SLR Dodgy just missing the back of SLR Colden. This then led to a concertina effect down the field with several drivers picking up some damage. SLR Gareth took advantage making his way into P4 as SLR Colden took P3. Before the first lap was complete SLR St20h had a crash at T8 bringing an end to his race being the first retiree and a VSC. By lap 6 the front 5 had pulled away a gap but it was a 3-car battle between SLR Dolph1n, SLR Russell and I Cxmzn I that was getting spicy. SLR Dolph1n managing to take P6 with a 3-wide battle into T3.

Onto lap 7 and with the DRS, SLR Dodgy was able to make an audacious move into P3 up at T3 as he went steaming up the inside as SLR Colden had to stay out wide to avoid any contact. Some may say a terrible divebomb but at the same time it was a very well executed move. Following this at T6 the Renault of SLR Hyperz then spun off the circuit pushing SLR Dodgy into P2, SLR Gareth into P3 and SLR Colden into P4 as SLR J3st3r now had a lead of over 2 seconds at the front. Onto lap 9 and SLR Gareth made a move into P2 at T1 past SLR Dodgy as the 2 battled side by side through the first half of the circuit with SLR Dodgy managing to take back P2 at T4 as the 2 drivers execute some respectful driving. SLR Dolph1n then took a spin at T7 as he dropped from P8 into P14. Laps 10 and 11 then saw some great racing between SLR Gareth and SLR Hyperz for P3 as they went side by side for several corners as SLR Gareth came out on top at T1 of lap 11 and held onto P3. Lap 13 saw the first of the pitstops as SLR Hyperz played his hand first as SLR Colden followed him in both going for the medium compound. This moved I Cxmzn I into P4 and IUKI Demonz was up to P5 on the hard compound tyres on the alternate strategy. SLR Dodgy then followed in the next lap moving SLR Gareth into P2 and IUKI Demonz into P3 as SLR J3st3r had opened a 3.5s lead. SLR Gareth then pitted on lap 15 as IUKI Demonz on the hard tyres was now up to P2 as SLR Hyperz took his second spin off at T6.

SLR J3st3r than made his pitstop on lap 17 as IUKI Demonz moved up into P1 on the hard tyres. Lap 22 and race leader IUKI Demonz then made hiss top onto the soft tyres and with 14 laps remaining he had put himself in a great position for a top finish as SLR J3st3r retook the lead with SLR Dodgy and SLR Gareth up to P2 and P3 and SLR Colden in P4. IUKI Demonz returning to the race in P5 on the soft tyres and could start his push towards the front. Lap 26 and IUKI Demonz was up into P4 and closing on the leaders with a gap of 6s to SLR Gareth in P3. Lap 32 of 36 and IUKI Demonz made his move on SLR Gareth into T3 and was now in P3 on the soft tyres and closing the leaders. Lap 35 and IUKI Demonz made a move on SLR Dodgy for P2 at T4 then SLR Dodgy suffered a front right puncture ending his race as he had to pit. Onto the final lap it was SLR J3st3r that lead the cars through and as the chequered flag was waved it was SLR Gareth that took P1 on penalties with SLR J3st3r in P2 and IUKI Demonz in P3 with a brilliant drive. SLR Colden took P4, I21I Maxwell P5, SLR Dodgy P6, SLR dolph1n P7, SLR C0w3n P8, Daredpaul1986 in P9 and I Cxmzn I took the final point in P10.

Incident:Scott85laney vs l Cxmzn l

Outcome: racing incident

Reason: cxmzn makes a move round the outside of Laney in turn 6, gives him enough room on the inside to make the corner comfortably, but Laney understeers into him and spins. Laney spinning is unfortunate but the stewards feel that Cxmzn isn’t at fault for this collision. We consider this just a racing incident and nothing more.
