We reach the halfway stage of the fifth season of the SLR Formula 2. We head home to Britain for three races at the brilliant Silverstone circuit where we hope to see plenty of action in a championship that is hotting up more round by round.
One Shot Quali! It was that man again Crispy2001 with his tenth Formula 2 pole position. The DAMS driver would beat championship rival SLR Darnell by over three tenths. Behind in row two was the impressive SLR Cech and UKBeastAssassin. Ads040 was your best Evo qualifier back in tenth.
First Sprint! Ads040 was your pole sitter followed by reigning champ Raceroller and the Trident duo of Monkey and MasonGammon. In very wet conditions Raceroller would jump Ads at the start to take the lead and from then on never looked back. Early fighting for fourth let the front three briefly drive off into the distance. Those drivers being Raceroller, Monkey and Ads040. MasonGammon would begin to fall and lose places whilst SLR Southerner seemed fast in the tricky conditions to make his way eventually into the podium positions taking MasonGammon, J Lee Menz and Ads in the process. Another driver making good progress was SLR Darnell who in the process found himself in a duel with UKBeastAssassin. Further back Division had made up nine places and on the cusp of a points scoring position. Wasn’t until mid race we saw the mistakes creep in with Menz having a big moment but managing to save it unlike the Campos driver of SLR Cech who ended up in the gravel. In the closing laps Raceroller had a comfortable lead from Monkey who was also comfortable in second. However in third we had a battle of the brothers between Southerner and Darnell for the final podium spot. Raceroller wins again mastering the conditions from Monkey who takes his third podium in four rounds. Southerner clinches third from Darnell with UKBeast and Crispy close behind. Division finished seventh after starting at the back and J Lee Menz was back in the points with eighth. Back in tenth SLR Dodgy edges SLR Charlie for the Evo sprint win.
Second Sprint! The ART of SLR Bennett was your pole sitter from MasonGammon, J Lee Menz and Division. We saw a few crashes and incidents in the first few corners. N1GHT RANG3RS race ended before turn two are being involved in an incident with Ads and SLR Cech. Few corners later upfront the leaders collide in Bennett and MasonGammon resulting in the ART driver facing the wrong way and at the back of the field. Lap three we saw Raceroller at his best pulling off a stunning double overtake in sector two on UKBeast and Darnell. Gammon, Crispy and Division was your top three and pulling off into the distance due to the road block of J Lee Menz fending off the threat from behind in fourth. Drama for the championship leader in SLR Darnell who spins it round Copse to fall all the way back to sixteenth! Menz would hold the train until contact with Raceroller round Stowe sending the Carlin driver facing the wrong way and out of the points. Lap seven Crispy takes the lead which would prove to be the race winning overtake. Gammon was now under threat from the other DAMS driver. Crispy wins and Gammon provisionally holds on to second just beating Division. Raceroller, UKBeast, Southerner and Monkey all finished close behind with the last points scoring position also going to the Evo sprint winner once again SLR Dodgy.
The Feature! Now for the main event which started off with chaos! PrimusGamings race lasted only a matter of a hundred metres then a few corners later we had a five car crash! Interesting one for the stewards to say the least. There was no safety car but a driver who made the most of it all was SLR Dodgy making up nine places in the process. After three laps we had our theme with Crispy and Darnell showing there hand and pulling off into the distance only until the two locked horns and put on an amazing show swapping places for multiple corners. A little back UKBeastAssassin was holding a five car train. Lap five we begun to see drivers pit onto the hards. Crispy was the first to blink followed by Southerner and SLR Cech. Darnell, UKBeast and Raceroller opted to stretch their medium tyre stint. The tyres seemed to hold up very well as Darnell was still pumping in fastest lap times despite being seven laps old. Cech would jump Southerner in the pits for a net P4 and the ART driver would lose another place soon after as Racerollers over-cut paid off brilliantly. The Scot would also take Cech a few laps after. It looks done at the front with Crispy having a gap to Darnell with the HWA driver also carrying a penalty. It wasn’t over for third though as UKBeast had to fend off Raceroller….it was going down to the last corner! Crispy wins back to back races here at Silverstone ahead of Darnell and Raceroller take the last podium spot overtaking Beast with a couple of corners to go. SLR Cech finishes fifth with SLR Southerner taking sixth ahead of the dutch duo Division and Monkey. SLR Dodgy takes the last point with also the Evo feature win taking yet again all the Evo wins in this triple rounder.
The triple race format here at Silverstone was an absolute success with battles all though the field no matter where you looked! We now head into the second half of the season with SLR Darnell as your championship leader. Crispy this round had closed the gap and lurking just behind is the ever consistent Raceroller. Still a lot can happen but first we have a week off. We are back in a couple of weeks when we go to Hungary where one driver in particular will be hoping for repeated success in the Feature race.

Verdict: 10 second penalty and 2 LP’s to MasonGammon05 (spinning another car)
Reason: MasonGammon05 is carrying to much speed into the corner and is under steering so we as stewards believe he would’ve caused a collision with SLR Bennett whatever. But in this case with SLR Bennett3810 turning in slightly early to the corner the secondary contact made from MasonGammon being late on the brakes causes SLR Bennett3810 to spin.
