Silverstone

In Elite we saw JamHam claim his first victory since Australia and in doing so extending his championship lead being the first driver over the 200 point mark this season. He was joined in the podium by Ham and Hoop, the former making a last corner overtake to snatch P2 from the Ferrari driver. Crispy came home 4th, recovering from a near-Grosjean experience exiting the pits. Bezzas took 5th after benefiting from the safety car and a lack of penalties. The Red Bull duo of Merkz and Rando were 6th and 7th respectively, the team’s best weekend this season to date with both drivers in the points. Raceroller, Ghost Colt and ZyDRAD rounded out the points after various drivers including Ghost Colt received post race penalties. Southerner and Darnell came home 11th and 12th missing out on points due to track limits penalties. Smoke had an eventful race to take P13 again on the receiving end of unfortunate incidents. V2 came home 14th with Flembog 15th, after a surprise P2 in qualifying he lead in the early stages only to get damage under the safety car while running P4, he also took fastest lap. Beast rounded out the finishers as we saw 4 retirees, those being; Kevin, Para, Niki and BDunk. We head to Hungary for the next round of the championship, a race which saw ZyDRAD take victory last time out. Will Jam be able to extend his championship lead or will hoop be able to provide a counter punch in this ding dong battle at the front.

UKBeastassassin vs v2 incident 1.

No further action -

although v2 is further back the move is on and warrants space. Both drivers continue to battle and no one looses out on position.

UKBeastassassin vs v2 incident 2.

Squeezing - 5 Seconds 1LP

Through T1 the drivers battle nicely alongside, through 2 v2 makes contact with UKBeastassassin even though there is room and on second contact pushes him off track causing him to lose position.

LP Smoke vs Merkz

No further action -

Lap 1 incident, frantic driving with a lot going. Nothing in it from the stewards.

LP Smoke vs SLR Darnell

No further action -

Through the corner, SLR Darnell leaves adequate room through the defending of the position shown in both clips and the understeer coming off the curb mixed with the games awful mechanics causes the spin.

LP Smoke vs Ghost Colt

Squeezing - 5 Seconds 1LP

Smoke allowed colt the room on the inside through fair racing and on the exit colt does not reciprocate making contact with smoke and forcing him off track causing him to lose a further position.

Zydrad vs v2 Lap 1

Light wing damage - 10 seconds 2LP

Off the line both drivers have pulled away and by now under full traction. V2 for no reason cuts across the track and causes zydrad wing damage.

Zydrad vs v2 Formation Lap

Gap exceeding 3 seconds for the allocated time allowed on formation lap - 3 seconds

The Division One Championship landed in the United Kingdom for round 12 of the SLR Season 6 championship, and as the sun beamed down on the old airfield, the race was to be a gloomy grey with rain setting in. Qualifying was a close affair as it was BrindyBoi67 further cementing his strong form with another pole position to add to the collection, setting a 1:24.298 under the British sun. however, it was one of the closest battles for pole position we have seen so far this season, with Riggsey x managing to break his SLR hoodoo and get himself a front row start for the first time since his arrival, setting a 1:24.306, only 8thousandths of a second behind the Williams, with CechThisOut, who has been enjoying a resurgent period, setting the third fastest time, with a 1:24.371, 6hundredths of a second off pole and enough for a P3 start in his Ferrari. The race would throw everything the drivers knew out the window as the grey clouds dominated the Silverstone skies and rain would be a defining factor in how drivers went about setting their car up for race trim and navigating their way around parc ferme. The rain is so often a defining factor and is prime opportunity for drivers to glisten under the abhorrent conditions, but either way, the rain always added a bit of flavour to the racing, but a great deal of challenge to those driving.

The lights went out and the race start was skittish from most drivers as they tried to minimise the wheelspin on the damp track, but it was Riggsey x who managed to muscle his way past BrindyBoi67 through T1 and quickly galloped into the distance, with the rest of the pack clipping at Brindy’s heels, like hungry lions, looking to get past the Williams as he wasn’t up to speed off the start, and Cechthisout saw his opportunity into brooklands, but the Williams was more than aware of the Ferrari’s antics, and Cechthisout soon ran wide on the exit of Luffield, letting Vandoorne through and having SillyBunny47711 and SLR Semm waiting to find the gaps and take the opportunity, but the early lap antics at the front soon fizzled out as drivers started branching out and having fair gaps between themselves. After the early struggle, it didn’t take too long for BrindyBoi67 to get up to speed and chase Riggsey x back down, with the gap being as high as 3s after lap 1, it was nothing to split the two by lap 5 and Brindy found a whole new challenge. As Murray Walker once said, “catching up to a driver is one thing, but overtaking is quite another”, and it held true as Brindy couldn’t find his way past the Renault, and the conditions don’t ease overtaking, it makes it harder. SLR Semm was having the same issue with SillyBunny47711, as the McLaren driver looked to forge a way past the Mercedes, but what was a close battle during the first stint, it was to no avail as the McLaren stabbed it at Brooklands, but the move just couldn’t be completed as the racing was excitingly close between the two, as cars danced around on the greasy track, drivers knew undercutting could be a decisive factor in the conditions, but the question was, when to pull the trigger?

The undercut proved to be decisive in the McLaren/Mercedes battle as SLR Semm managed to bridge a 2.5s gap by pitting earlier than Bunny, and at the front, Brindyboi67 dropped into the pits on L11 and forced Riggsey’s hand, as he pitted the next lap, but the undercut wasn’t as effective, but enough to have a lead change. SLR Vandoorne extended the stint to avoid traffic which would play nicely into his hands as the leaders would find themselves in traffic. Bennett628, TazFW and ARL PReDaToRZz all trying a bold, brave, but dangerous 0 stop strategy, and despite them being a thorn in the side to the leaders, they were well entitled to fight them for position given the strategy call. Penalties would also be a variable in the race, and Brindyboi67 was not only in a race against Riggsey, but it was a battle between him and the clock, as 6s worth of pens would be a true detriment to his aspirations to the race win should the Renault driver keep within the gap, but as the rain stopped and a dry line was forming, it threw yet another dynamic into the mix, but as the chequered flag dropped, the gap would be 6tenths in favour of Brindyboi67 who would add another trophy to the cabinet and extend the championship lead, whilst Riggsey x would continue his championship revival with back to back podiums, and SLR Vandoorne, who, in fact missed out his breakthrough podium due to the Renault driver fighting tooth and nail in Austria, the AlphaTauri driver would share it with him and the championship leader and his pace in his first races is something other drivers will be making quick note of. Discussing a quick note, it is with an honourable mention to TazFW who picked up P5 and the DOTD nomination after starting 18th and making the 0stop work wonders, and as well to ARL PReDaToRZz who also pulled off the bold strategy, sealing P7 following penalties being applied to the final race result.

Racing incident

In Division Two this week we finally had a fully dry qualifying after a few weeks running in dry to wet conditions. After some good running and plenty of invalidations over the 3 sessions, it was craigfk who took pole, with his championship rival SLR FemPest alongside in P2. It was a very tentative start, which was overshadowed by a big incident involving SLR FemPest and rockamad73, which caused a big domino affect down the field, including damage to the former’s car. It was then a crazy battle between the top 4 drivers, being craigfk, rockamad73, Coupe a Benz and SLR Teddy. The latter pitted early and tried an undercut, which worked! However many penalties from track limits would put him further down the field. Then a few disconnects from Coupe a Benz caused him to drop off the top guys, meaning he didn’t get to challenge for the win. It then left the two Renaults, where craigfk let rockamad73 through to try and get a 1-2 with the latter’s 6 seconds of pens, however it would backfire as craigfk would lose out by 0.039s on the line to his teammate! However there was another big twist to the tale; the incident on lap 1 between the winner and SLR FemPest. That was deemed the fault of rockamad73, taking him off the podium! His teammate craigfk would take the win, followed by a McLaren 2-3 with Coupe a Benz and OwenHowell36 completing the podium. Then it was SLR Teddy with his many penalties in P4, and SLR Barlow in P5. SLR Leah would take P6 just ahead of his current championship rival ZachIsBeast25. SPhh took only his second points finish of the season in P8, whilst SLR Panther made up for his qualifying mistakes to get P9 and the fastest lap. rockamad73 would then finish off with a singular point after his penalty was applied by the stewards. It was a great race in Britain, and with that momentum I am excited to see how we go in Hungary! I would also say well done as we have seen remarkably less incidents since France, however the penalties this week wer rather large.

SLR Fempest vs Rockamad - Causing wing damage/Divebomb (lap 1)

Outcome: 20s + 4LP awarded to Rockamad also Qualiban for reaching 10 LP

Reason: The Stewards wholeheartedly reject the claims from the defendant that the move was ever on at all. 1) the defendant’s claims that there was a clear gap to the inside are untrue, given the late apex nature of the corner meaning that just because a theoretical gap exists, does not mean there is a racing gap. 2) There was plenty of opportunity to move to the right hand side of the track given how deep Rockamad sends it on the brakes.

Rockamad lunges both Fempest and Benz from several car lengths back, and was never making the corner without making contact. The wing damage in this situation is irrelevant given that for a driver with the experience Rockamad now has, making an overtake attempt of this nature is simply unacceptable. The only reason this incident doesn’t look bad in terms of the damage and immediate disturbance to other racers, is because Rockamad’s car uses both the side pods of Fempest and Benz to stop for the corner, meaning both cars remain relatively unsettled on track. It is also worth noting that while Fempest wasn’t spun, he did lose 3-4 positions on track as a result of the dive.

IGOR - Readying up before 5 min break

Outcome: Qualifying Ban + 5LP awarded to IGOR

Reason: Igor blatantly readies up before 5 mins break.

IGOR - Retiring on track

Outcome: Qualifying Ban + 3LP awarded IGOR

Reason: Igor Blatantly retires on track - caught by both streamers at the time of it happening.

Rockamad73 - Cutting pit entry (Q2)

Outcome: 2LP awarded to Rockamad

Reason: Blatant break of the pit lane entry rules.

FZR Igor: official warning for reaching 6 lp

Onto Silverstone and it was the 5th wet race of the season as division 3 now had 41.6% of all races so far in wet conditions as drivers now have new wet suits instead of race overalls. It was SLR Gareth that took pole position for this race with SLR Hyperz in P2. IUKI Demonz was in P3 and SLR Spr1tley made up the front row. As the lights went out it was a slow start for everyone in the wet conditions as everyone headed for T1. There was immediate drama in T1 as Lofty4794 took a slide wide into SLR Charlie and then slid back across the track taking out SLR Spr1tley which then had a concertina as a mass pile up followed. SLR Colden was the unlucky party as he received terminal damage with the safety car being called as SLR Nealix, SLR Russell, SLR Jester, SLR Dodgy, X J Geddes X and SLR St20h all picked up time penalties for collisions. Another spin soon after under safety car conditions then added to the penalties as Scott85laney and I21I Maxwell also picked up penalties for collisions. The early safety car then meant that a multitude of drivers were able to pit to serve their penalties and change damaged wings. After the early safety car, it was IUKI Demonz that led the field into the restart on lap 5 with SLR Gareth in P2 and SLR Hyperz in P3. Onto lap 7 and with no further drama yet it was I21I Maxwell that made a great move past I Cxmzn I at turn 3 around the outside to move into P4 as IUKI Demonz continued to lead the race from SLR Gareth in P2. Lap 10 and SLR Gareth in P2 got a little close to IUKI Demonz at T3 and caught the back putting SLR Gareth into a slight spin which he held well but this moved SLR Hyperz up into P2 to chase down IUKI Demonz in P1.

SLR Charlie then had a spin off at T2 with teammate SLR Russell also spinning the corner ahead as the Ferraris were starting to struggle. Lofty4794 was then the first driver to opt for a stop on lap 10 as he came in for fresh intermediate tyres with a plan to go until the end of the race. Lap 11 and SLR Dodgy made a move up the inside of SLR Stevooo at T3 to take P10 and move into the points as SLR Spr1tley almost lost P9 as he had spun off at T4 but just held onto P9 re-joining the track in time. Lap 12 and Lofty4749 crashed out at the exit of Stowe ending his race which brought out the VSC as IUKI Demonz was still ahead at the front but opted to pit moving SLR Hyperz into P1 with SLR Gareth in P2 and I21I Maxwell up into P3. As the VSC ended though SLR Nealix took a spin at Stowe which also collected SLR Spr1tley as they both headed in for a pitstop to repair their cars. Lap 13 then saw race leader SLR Hyperz make his stop as SLR Gareth took the race lead with I21I Maxwell into P2 and I Cxmzn I up into P3. Previous leader IUKI Demonz retuned from his pitstop to track just behind SLR Hyperz but managed to make an immediate overtake at T3 round the outside of SLR Hyperz to take P12 in a well-executed move as SLR Russell crashed out at T2 ending his race as another VSC was called. Lap 15 and SLR Hyperz was then penalised for speeding under VSC as I21I Maxwell came into pit along with I Cxmzn I and Scott85laney pushing SLR dolph1n into P2 and SLR Dodgy into P3.

Race leader SLR Gareth then opted to pit on lap 15 moving SLR Dodgy into P1, SLR Stevooo into P2 and SLR J3st3r into P3. Lap 16 and SLR Charlie crashed out at the final corner ending his race and bringing out another safety car as race leader SLR Dodgy came in to pit along with SLR Stevooo as SLR J3st3r stayed out taking the race lead with SLR Gareth moving back into P2 as I21I Maxwell took P3 as SLR Dodgy came out of the pits in P4. Lap 21 and the race restarted with SLR J3st3r leading from SLR Gareth and I21I Maxwell. Another VSC then came out soon after and both SLR J3st3r and SLR Gareth both picked up drive through penalties opening the race to anyone now as SLR Dodgy and I21IMaxwell went side by side into T5 in a battle for the net lead. Into the final few laps and I21I Maxwell was race leader with SLR Dodgy and I Cxmzn I both following close behind with SLR Hyperz making ground up to P8 and flying. SLR Hyperz made some final lap moves up the field but it was I21I Maxwell that won the race with I Cxmzn I in P3 and SLR Hyperz in P3. SLR Dodgy took P4, SLR Stevooo P5, X J Geddes X P6, SLR Dolph1n P7, SLR St20h P8, Scott85laney P9 and I UK I Demonz in P10.

Maxwell vs Laney - Spinning another car.

Outcome - 5 Second penalty/1LP to Laney

Reason - Laney left his nose in unnecessarily causing maxwell to spin, severity of penalty has been reduced due to the fact that Maxwell is unaffected as he regains position and Laney happens to be going for a move as the safety car is deployed and the game also rewarded Laney with a penalty.

Laney vs Maxwell - Overtaking under safety car

Outcome - No further action.

Reason - several cars slow down to let maxwell past so he has no choice but to overtake them.

Sprightly vs Dolphin/Nealix - Causing major wing damage.

Outcome - No further action.

Reason - Due to Dolphin and Nealix coming together in what the stewards believe is a racing incident, Nealix spins round and Sprightly unfortunately hits him. Since Nealix is out of control of his car we don’t believe he can be penalised for the damage Sprightly received.
