Season 11 Kicks off Down Under! - F2 Round 1

Updated: 6 days ago

Season 11 of SLR F2 kicked off in the not so sunny Australia for the opening qualifying of the season which saw NightOwl in his new INVICTA Racing car take a second SLR F2 pole position. Conditioned improved for the races however. Sprint Race saw an epic 3-way battle for the race win between Corey, Jam and Midzy all of which have been champions in SLR whether in F1 or F2 before. Corey would lead home Jam and then Midzy. The opening feature race got underway with NightOwl struggling to maintain the strong pace he showed in Quali. A late Saftey car (for the first time since season 9!) gave us a cracking ending to the season opener With a podium full of SLR F2 Champions, but Season 7 Champion SLR Corey started his campaign with the double! Season 4 and reining Season 10 champion Raceroller finished 2nd, finally Season 1 and Season 6 Champion Jam rounded out the podium!

Next time out we head to the Circuit De Barcelona Catalunya in Spain. If Round 1 is anything to go by then we have a thrilling season ahead.

Take care and hope to see you joining us for the next one!

Sprint Race Incidents:

SLR Petronas vs Joseeeph F1

Lap 5

Verdict: Racing Incident

Very unfortunate incident which has predominantly been caused by the contact system and tyres locking together. Both drivers were trying to leave space. Joseeeph was turning right after the contact but as the tyres had locked together at this point it was to no avail. As Joseeeph has done everything possible to avoid serious contact and leave Petronas space we feel it would be harsh to penalise him.

Feature Race Incidents:

MonkeySmash5954 v SLR Mash

Lap 3

Verdict: 15 Secs & 3LP to MonkeySmash5954 (Appeal: reduced to 10 Secs + 2LP)

Coming into the final corner MonkeySmash nudges Mash’s rear wing slightly knocking Mash into a half spin. As Mash is veering off MonkeySmash hits him again and hits him into the pit entry wall. Which results in major damage for Mash and damage for MonkeySmash too.

SLR Dodgy v F1ABQW3RTYYY

Lap 9

Verdict: 5 Secs & 1LP to F1ABQW3RTYYY

QWERTY makes an overtake on Dodgy into turn 3. At mid corner he loses rear grip and slightly slides. This allows Dodgy to get back ahead. At this point we feel QWERTY should have yielded and tucked behind. Instead he tries to keep his nose in through turn 4 and cause front wing to rear tyre contact with Dodgy. Which results in both cars being spun.

MonkeySmash5954 v SLR Petronas

Lap 11

Verdict: NFA

Nothing in this submission. Petronas holds his line and only leaves MonkeySmash the outside line into turn 3. A cars width is left at all times and we feel Monkey has gone deep into turn 3 due to him carrying too much speed.

MonkeySmash5954 v SLR Petronas v WillyBum7

Lap 15

Verdict: Racing Incident

On the run down to turn 11 WillyBum is tight to the inside wall with SLR Southerner performing an overtake. WillyBum brakes earlier than normal for turn 11 knowing his line is too tight. Behind MonkeySmash is attempting a similar overtake on Petronas. As WillyBum brakes Petronas moves left to avoid the slowing car ahead. This causes contact with MonkeySmash and destabilises his car. No damage or positions are lost from this incident so we’re ruling it a racing incident.

OwenHowell36 v SLR Dodgy

Lap 16

Verdict: Racing Incident

Through the turn 4 Dodgy has bumped wheels with SLR Allen and been knocked off line. This has allowed OwenHowell to get alongside into turn 5. Both drivers are respectful and aim to leave the maximum amount of space. Dodgy catches the inside curb which causes him to oversteer on corner exit and leave Owen with minimal space. There was no intentional squeeze or forcing off track and no damage sustained. So we’re calling this hard racing.

MonkeySmash5954 v Baggiefan 1995

Lap 17

Verdict: NFA

There's nothing in this submission. Baggiefan isn't weaving on the straight, his inputs just seem a little strong. The tyre bump into Turn 3 is very minor and we feel caused by MonkeySmash turning in slightly too early while there's still a car on the inside.
