Round six of the SLR Formula 2 season took us to the simple looking track of Austria where due to the nature of the track it should close the pack up which means the slightest mistake could prove very costly especially with track limits.
One Shot Quali! SLR Corey took his first SLR F2 pole position on his fourth attempt showing his improving pace week by week. He would narrowly beat Championship leader SLR Darnell by less than a tenth who both had SLR Ham and UKBeastAssassin behind in row two keeping close company.
The Sprint! On reverse grid pole you had OwenHowell and sharing the front row with himself was teammate and reigning champion Raceroller. Just behind the Prema duo was Monkey and Crispy. Away we went but it got off badly for OwenHowell and Monkey who both received damage in their first lap to end their chance of good points. It would be a tight battle through out mainly because of the influence of the DRS train but Crispy was still your biggest mover who managed to lead the train into first passing drivers one by one. Crispy and Raceroller for multiple laps would duel for the lead with Southerner in third behind breathing down their necks but this would last until the safety car was deployed following OwenHowells race concluding with his car in the barriers. This gave drivers the chance to pit onto the softs which with some was the case. Most notably UKBeastAssassin. We had a two lap sprint to the finish where Crispy and Raceroller would pull off into the distance following Southerners valiant effort to keep both Corey and the soft runner of UKBeast behind. UKBeast would eventually take both but a penalty on the penultimate corner ruined his efforts. Come the finish it was a win for Crispy with Raceroller settling for second with Southerner taking the last rostrum spot. It was a good day for ART as SLR Bennett was back high up in the points with fourth who jumped UKBeast and Darnell following penalties. SLR Dodgy finished seventh with the Evo sprint win and SLR Ham taking the last point in eighth.
The Feature! We had a very wet feature race which gave us the opportunity to really see the skills of our drivers. The first phase of the race despite the horrendous conditions was all very close. Up front SLR Corey and SLR Ham would trade places with at one point almost taking each other out in the process but they can be forgiven because of the conditions. Corey would eventually succumb and even fall behind SLR Darnell who would later start a charge to hunt down SLR Ham for the lead. Further back UKBeast opted to pit which proved very costly as the wet tyres would be capable of lasting a whole race and nobody else followed suit. Ham would maintain the lead right to the end by picking up penalties on the way which proved very costly. It was a case of win, hello baby and win for SLR Darnell who took another F2 feature win with Ham having to swallow second. Crispy would make it a double podium scoring round pipping Corey and Southerner who both had penalties. Raceroller finished a lonely race in sixth where further back Monkey just clinched seventh from the rapidly closing UKBeast. In ninth was your Evo Feature winner SLR Dodgy and for tenth scoring his first ever SLR F2 point was BcfcJosh who scored two tenth place finishes despite starting right at the back.
We almost approach the halfway stage where up next we head home to Silverstone where we encounter the second of our three triple header rounds in this Formula 2 season. No doubt we will be short of action and its only a week away!

SLR Darnell vs SLR Corey Lap 1 - Feature
Verdict: NFA
Reason: We as stewards feel that it would be harsh to penalise SLR Corey as he’s forced into taking that line due to the nature of the corner (T1) as if he turns any tighter he would cause a collision. If he lifts off it could also cause a knock on affect to the cars behind.
