Premier League Darts with a pinch of F2 Portugal

We arrived in Glasgow for the 3rd night of the BET MGM Premier League Darts, with a stunner last week from Michael van Gerwin taking a sensational victory over Luke Littler, can the 17-year-old fight back tonight?

Well, the night began with the battle of the former champions, ‘Voltage’ Rob Cross and ‘Bully boy’ Michael Smith. Two world class players on the top of their game. A game which was so end with Rob Cross taking an early lead but ‘bully boy’ did a great job to bring it back to level terms. But after a long-awaited conclusion it was Rob Cross taking the victory in the opening quarter final of the evening, taking a 6-4 victory over the 2023 World Champion, he would await 7-time Premier League champion Michael Van Gerwen or ‘Snakebite’ Peter Wright in the semifinals.

Toby took pole. Shock.

Second match of the evening was a cracker. MVG vs ‘Snakebite’. It started off well for Wright as he took the fight to Van Gerwen who was looking shaky, unlike his normal self this evening. Peter Wright was seizing his opportunists missing the winning double on multiple occasions in the game and of course Van Gerwen took full advantage of this and proceeded to cruise his way to the semifinals, which he would meet 2018 World Champion Rob Cross.

Next up would-be Nathan Aspinall against the reigning world number 1 and world champion Luke Humphries who since winning the world championship has been unable to find his mojo. After my beautiful rendition of Mr Brightside on stream and many many 180s later we had a great match on our hands. ‘The Asp’ unfortunately missing out on a 9 darter with Double 12 which would unfortunately haunt him for the remainder of the match, as Luke Humphries managed to go sicko mode on Aspinall and cruise his way toa 6-3 Victory. He would either meet Luke Littler or Gerwyn Price in the 2nd of the semifinal match ups.

Toby won the sprint, but didn’t take Fastest Lap, Benster took that. Wheyyyyyyyyy!!!!

Back to the darts. The final quarter final would see a highly anticipated matchup between 17-year-old sensation Luke Littler against Gerwyn Price. My god what a match we got. 180s left, right, and centre with ten 180s in total (I nearly lost my voice). Littler was pulling ahead but something changed in Price and really upped his game in the later legs and came back to take a sensational 6-5 win over Luke Littler. Littler gutted after his performance but he will be back next week to go again. The second semifinal would be a cracker, Gerwyn Price VS Luke Humphries.

At this point SLR Southerner entered the party so you know it was going to be ‘Bunting mental’.

Semifinal 1 would see ‘Votlage’ vs ‘Mighty’ Michael Van Gerwen. Rob Cross had a mega start but Michael after what was a substandard performance from his standards in the quarter finals needed to up his game to beat Cross. Thats exactly what MVG did, got his elbows out but even with a tough fight from Rob as we saw many times from the former champ in the world championship, it was not enough to overpower the dutchman, as MVG took a 6-4 Victory in the end. He would meet the winner of Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price.

Onto that match we go to then. The world number 1, ‘Cool hand’ Luke Humphries had a tough challenge ahead of him in Gerwyn Price. The early stages from Luke were like we saw in the world championships, sensational. But Price was not going to go down without a fight, getting a few legs back on the reigning champion. But in the end, nothing was going to stop Luke Humphries heading to the final for the first time in the premier league for him. He would meet ‘mighty’ Michael Van Gerwen in the final.

Toby took the feature race win, but got FL....

The long-awaited final got underway. Both players at the top of their game, Luke Humphries playing like he hid in the final of the world championship. Michael Van Gerwen hunting for an 8th Premier League title. MVG started off strong keeping a 100+ average early doors but Luke Humphries remembered he had his Weetabix this morning and began to cook, taking 3 legs on the bounce making it 3 legs on the bounce, 4-3 to ‘Cool hand’ at the time, but who would come out victorious? It would swing in MVG’s favour again taking the lead, making it 5-4!!! Humphries wasn’t done yet, 5-5 to make it a deciding leg. It went all the way but double 20 for Michael Van gerwen would see him clinch night 3 in Cardiff and shoots himself to the top of the table.

A stunning performance from MVG making it back-to-back wins in the premier league after taking night 2 aswell last week. Next week we head to Newcastle for night 4 of the 2024 BET MGM Premier League Darts. Make sure to join us then.

As you were, CM x
