New season under way

McKeon

Bahrain marked the start of a new season on a new game. With there being big changes to the regulations, the cars and the game itself would this shake up the finishing order at all?

Firstly q1, where the biggest shock was snypz not getting a clean lap in and getting knocked out in q1. Onto q2 where the main story was the performances of those drivers who got moved up. Elite, Arbon and jam all got knocked out in q2, although Arbon definitely silenced some of his doubters with a very strong p11 result in qualifying. Onto q3 which was bound to be sweaty. firstly the bankers, which were incredibly close. Crispy was top of the bunch with a 27.9 banker. Then the final runs. Griffiths only had one attempt due to using too many sets of tyres in previous sessions but managed to put it on provisional pole. Crispy then blew that out of the water by nearly 3 tenths! The Mercedes driver certainly has come out swinging. Once everyone else had finished their laps it was turned in p2 and crowding in p3.

Now for the start where everyone near the front except for crowding started on the mediums. Crowding elected for the hards, hoping to go long.

Off the line crowding started well despite being on the harder tyre. Crispy, however, managed to keep his lead. Turner dropped one place before turn 1 but this would get a lot worse as he spun, dropping to the back.

So the order initially was crispy in p1 then crowding in p2, with ogween in p3, Griffiths in p4 and midzy and raceroller battling side by side for p5. To the surprise of absolutely everyone, this battle didn’t result in either one of them crashing. Speaking of crashes, there were several in the midfield. Most notably a big incident in s2 that was put under investigation involving elite and several other drivers.

Moving on from the chaotic start, crowding was embroiled in a battle between himself, ogween and Griffiths. Crowding and Griffiths were working together and managed to get themselves into p2 and p3, positions they held for most of the rest of the race. Further behind midzy, roller and corey were also racing hard.

Then lap 9 came about. Division put in an early contender for ‘clown moment of the season’ and decided it would be a good idea to briefly take his hands off his wheel in the middle of the start finish straight. This of course sent him on a one way trip to the wall and brought out a SC. Everyone boxed, with the majority of the field on hard tyres except notably crowding, who was forced to try to stretch the meds.

The SC came in and a new player entered the battle for the podium. Season 6 champion SLR Jam40 had recovered from his lap 1 incident and was sitting very nicely in the big train for the podium places.

As for the head of this train, crispy was naturally very wary of crowding behind him, who was on the faster medium tyres. Crowding however would make crispy’s job a lot easier for him as he stacked it at the turn 9/10 hairpin. The red bull reserve driver was able to recover from this moment although it lost the others behind him a lot of time and gave crispy a big lead once again.

This meant the main battle was for p2. Crowding and Griffiths headed this with raceroller and ogween the next cars behind. Behind them jam, Corey and midzy were having a very intense battle. The champion had lost out due to the double stack behind ogween and lost out even further after he made a mistake at turn 9-10. However he closed up to the train and managed to make his way through Corey and jam. Unfortunately for midzy he had a 3 second time penalty, dropping him to p8 by the end of the race. This would then become p7 as jam received a post race penalty for the lap 1 incident. This meant Corey would inherit p6, a solid drive from the ‘imola merchant’.

Last few laps of the race and crowding’s tyres hit the cliff. Initially he was pulling Griffiths along with him but his mediums tanked in the last couple of laps. Griffiths passed him and then crowding’s teammate raceroller managed to sneak past him and secure a podium. The podium was therefore crispy in p1, who showed insane race pace, Griffiths in a strong p2 and raceroller in p3. A very enjoyable race and one that is sure to signal the start of a very competitive season.

Down the field a noteable battle was the battle for p9 between turner, stann and semm. It looked like stann would get p9 and turner would get p10 after semm’s defence ended on lap 28 as his mediums also hit the cliff, however the Dutchman stann unfortunately made a mistake on the final lap, relegating him to p11. Gutting stuff.

Next week is Jeddah, which is a track that is different from the Bahrain international circuit in just about every way except for its general global location. As it’s a track that massively favours those using a wheel, it’ll be a good opportunity for the wheel drivers to get a result back over crispy and Griffiths.

Incident 1 - WTurner vs Bezzas (Lap12) - NFA - The stewards believe that for this incident there was multiple factors which came into play. Firstly, there is different lines being taken on entry and exit of this corner, and unfortunately two cars cross lines. We feel as though WTurner’s switchback takes him into Bezzas path which we feel no blame can be left with Bezza as he has taken the apex tightly to maximise exit speed. We put this down to an unfortunate racing incident for WTurner.

Incident 2 - WTurner vs Semm (Lap28) - NFA - This incident shows two cars coming to the end of the race fighting for position. Though Semm does compromise his own line by locking up, he does not cut across WTurner and leaves sufficient room. On the corner itself, it could be argued that WTurner is just too far back to go for the move, but is well navigated by both drivers to avoid more serious issues. We see no punishment necessary for either driver despite time lost.

Incident 3 - Multiple Drivers (Lap1) - SLR Jam40 5s & 2LP , Jito DV Quali Ban for next race attended.

This incident required as many angles and perspectives so thank you to those who provided us with that. There are two incidents within Lap 1 which we feel are worth commenting on.

Firstly, the stewards agree that turn 1 is as expected and rather messy but well navigated by most. From seeing certain on boards, Jito DV dive bombs the first corner, where we assume missing the braking point, and causes a chain reaction through the crowd and causing Monkey to spin around. We therefore deem Jito DV to be at fault for this incident but with him retiring in the pits, they will have to serve a qualifying ban at the next available race.

Moving into Turn 5/6 the contact between Arbon, Elite Risks and Jam starts from the lead into Turn 4 where Jam overtakes under yellow flags and the game requires him to give the position back which he does not do, until the entry into Turn 5. Due to this movement, it causes a bottleneck leading into a difficult corner and results in multiple affected races.

Incident 4 - BRT Griffiths - Pitlane Infringement - Warning & 2LP.

After evidence was shown that Griffiths crossed the line for his final run with sufficient time remaining, we deemed this only to be a warning. We compared this to the time he would’ve gained from going into the pit lane without braking and we believe he would’ve gotten out in time for a final lap. This type of incident is not something we appreciate to see in this league, especially at the top standard and should the difference in time gained have been more substantial then the stewards would have a different outlook on this.

Division 1

Div 1 Race Report

For SLR Season 9 the last of the introductory races, on a Monday night with Division 1.

With the grid being closer then ever, everyone pushing to prove that they can win in this division this season, there were many shocks in qualifying. In Q1 SLR Bennett previously in the McKeon division got knocked out in Q1 which was surprising knowing the pace he has.

Q2 was a similar story with the quickest man in Q1, SLR Quattro in the Ferrari out in Q2 and also Ellis 37, who showed fantastic pace in the practice races prior to this race.

For Q3, all drivers went into the session knowing they all have the chance to grab the pole position but it was TMG Alfie claiming the pole position and in the driving seat to try and get the first win of the new season and in the new generation of cars.

The start of the race was clean for almost all drivers apart from VR46 and ShutMedal being spun around by Turn 2. Leviking16 off the start managed to grab the lead off of TMG Alfie meaning he would now be the one challenging for the lead. There were also spins for OwenHowell36, ZyDRAD and ETSR Jensen2508 with the latter spinning from 5th place meaning he'd have a lot of work to do for the rest of the race.

From Lap 5 there was a few DRS trains meaning that everyone were stuck in there positions for some time and that meant battling all around the field. The first retirement of the race was ZyDRAD on Lap 10 choosing to retire in the pit lane. On Lap 11 the first of the front runners, MeRkz47, made the decision to take their first and only stop onto the Hard tyres. A lap later SimbarocksONE, TMG Alfie, ZachIsBeast25 and Evoke Replay all covering off MeRkz47 stop all going onto the Hard tyre compund.

From Lap 13 almost all of the Medium tyre runners had come in for fresh Hards apart from Riggsey x, UKBeastAssasin, ShutMedal and SLR Liamm staying out going for a different strategy then the others and making them drivers to keep an eye on to see how they fare.

Lap 15 was the lap where the race really began to be more entertaining with SLR Bennett spinning at Turn 4 and becoming the first on track retirement and bringing out a Safety Car! This caused a lot of action in the pit lane as all of the Medium runners going long went onto new tyres. Many of the drivers pitting opting for the Hard tyre compound but the two Ferrari's of SLR Quattro, ShutMedal and also Ellis 37 choosing to go onto the Soft tyre compound, It's a risk but one that could pay out sweetly if they can last to the end of the race.

On Lap 18 the Safety Car came in and the racing was to continue. UKBeastAssassin from the restart even before Turn 1 is able to pull 1.2 seconds on Leviking16 which could prove pivotal for the end of this race. A lot of drivers on the restart struggling with Tyre temperatures as TMG Alfie spins at the middle of Turn 2 and others losing position as they struggle to find any grip.

On Lap 19 the Soft runners were beginning to make their moves as ShutMedal is able to gain 3 positions by the start of Lap 20. One the other Soft runner of SLR Quattro has also made some good moves and got up to P10 at the start of Lap 21, but going into Turn 4 brakes later then the Haas of Evoke Replay, hitting the Haas in the process and spinning both of them ruining their races and also ZachIsBeast25 who got tangled up in the accident.

Lap 22 saw another retiree of SLR Quattro who after his spin with the Haas of Evoke Replay, decided to call it quits and retire in the pit lane. Meanwhile, the two remaining soft runners of ShutMedal and Ellis 37, made good progress from the start of the Safety Car restart, but are now stuck in a DRS train from P5 down to ShutMedal in P8.

Lap 24, and the battle in the DRS train from P5 begun to spice up with ETSR Jensen2508 making a move on SimbarocksONE at Turn 11 and making it stick going up to P6. From the next few laps, the battle between DRS train of P5 to P8 continues as they battle but no moves made yet

On the start on Lap 27, Pancakes no1 is able to get close enough to MeRkz47 and is able to pass him into Turn 4 to take 3rd from the Haas driver. Lap 28 the two Soft runners are battling and meanwhile the Haas of Evoke Replay spins and retires at the end of Turn 11 capping off a tricky day in the office for the reserve driver.

On the start of the Last lap of the race, the battle for P3 get close as MeRkz47 is able to get close enough down the straight to make a dive down the inside for the position on Pancakes no1 and they are side by side from Turn 1 to Turn 4, and the Haas driver is able to overtake round the outside and take the position which he would keep till the end.

Meanwhile Ellis and ShutMedal, both of the tyres get punctures! which ruins their hope for any points in the race which tops off both their horrid races. But at the end of the lap, UKBeastAssasin is able to hold off the charge of Leviking16 to take the first win of the Division 1 season! Leviking16 takes second place not only showing very strong quali pace but great race pace and sure we'll see him back at the top next time round. MeRkz47 comes home to take the final spot on the podium.

Other drivers to be noted was Riggsey x, doing well finishing P5 from starting P10 on the grid and also SLR Liamm who started P19 on the grid to take the final points spot in P10, an impressive drive from the Alpine driver and sure that won't be his last points finish in this division.

From start to finish this race was very entertaining and sure not to be the end of the entertainment as next week we head to Jeddah, which i'm sure will bring much more excitement due to it's quick nature so look forward to then and excited to write about one of the most close and entertaining divisions in SLR.

SLR Bennet vs ETSR Jensen2508 - Lap 4

Verdict: 10 Second Penalty + 3LPs to ETSR Jensen2508

With the nature of this corner people braking earlier than the line suggests is common therefore its down to the car behind to be cautious, he brakes to late and hits him and then once he slightly spun SLR Bennett he hit him again giving his front wing major damage

This penalty comes under rule 17 of shortening of track during qualifying to save time therefore we have given this penatly

Division 2

Welcome to division 2 new season new drivers and a complete unpredictability awaits.

Qualifying saw reserve driver Scar b0rga take pole by 3 tenths ahead of j Lee menz, LSW legend was on the second row joined by badottertv.

To the race then. And from the front row Menz went backwards and found himself in P6 by the time we took 2 corners. There was contact at turn 4 and SLR moley became the first victim and was out of the race, a safety car was required and under that safety car Simon37m trying to warm up his hard tyres lost it and became the second retiree. Quickly followed by cscmorris. We were down to 15 for the restart.

And what a restart it was as Scar, Morgan, legend and MasonGammon going wheel to wheel to wheel through the first couple of corners. Incredible racing with no contact.

Lap 7 saw SLR Morgan spin and SLR Charlie have a moment thisnallowed SLR Leah and badotter to battle it out for what the h was p6 with some more terrific action as we were a third of the way through the race.

Adrian having started on the softs, pitted and looked to get an undercut now on the mediums. That challenge was cut a little short as a few laps later we had our second safety car as Andrew f1 lost it and the passenger of SLR Morgan ran straight into his stricken car. This allowed the entire field to pit.

On the restart we had 12 laps to go and now all to play for with a mixture of fresh hard and medium tyres. LSW legend spun on and dropped out of the podium places. Meanwhile MasonGammon went up the inside of scar and took the lead.

Lap 21 from being fighting for the lead Scar had a spin and was then back in a 6 car fight for a podium. This left masongammon to assert P1 and pull away showing some great race pace all race.

Lap 25 saw cars 2nd down to 8th all within a second of one another, was proving hard to find a way through for everyone as everyone was pretty consistent with no mistakes. SLR Leah then lost touch to scar and drs so that allowed Adrian to get passed.

Lap 26/27 a mistake form Charlie allowed badotter to get pass but then had drs on the straight and Charlie quickly took the podium position back and this also allowed scar to go through.

Drama on the last lap as Adrian and badotter heading towards the first turn had contact and that saw badotter in the wall and out, Adrian then lit up his tyres coming out of turn 2 which saw him drop down the order.

The fight for the podium was ever so close in the final few corners as scar pushing Charlie around the last few corners but Charlie held on to claim 3rd.

It was Masongammon who took the win though once he broke drs was great and well controlled so congratulations to him. J Lee menz worked his way back up to take P2 having had a not great start. Charlie P3 as mentioned the div 3 champ showing he’s competitive in a higher division.

LSW L3G3ND44 Vs BadOtterTV - 10s and 2LP to BadOtterTV for spinning another car. (QB Due to DNF)

This is an avoidable incident as Otter is just a bit too eager out of the final corner. Reminder to all drivers to keep a safe distance during the safety car period.

Incident 2:

CSCMORRIS Vs SouthRaptor966 - 15s and 3LP to SouthRaptor966 for causing terminal damage.

Another avoidable incident behind the safety car as SouthRaptor is just carrying too much speed and cannot avoid going into the back of CSCMorris, sending the McLaren driver in the barriers and out of the race.

Incident 3:

Turn 4, Lap 1 incident - NFA

The racing is always going to be close on lap 1. Unfortunately for Danny he just ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time with nowhere to go to avoid hitting Moley.

Incident 4:

legendarydannyd Vs SouthRaptor966 - NFA

As this incident is caused by SouthRaptor966’s ai and not by the driver themselves the stewards determined that he could not be penalised for this incident as he had no control over his ai car.

Outcome: Qualifying Ban and 3LP

Reason: Ads040 clearly retires on track in Sector 1.

Lap 16 Incident Involving dRaSt1k bLazE & MVT Hurww

Outcome: Racing Incident

Reason: we believe that MVT Hurww is not to blame for this coming together and dRaSt1k bLazE was unfortunate to come out worse from the contact.

Division 4

Welcome everyone to the first rung on the ladder of Summit League Racing, where some of the superstars of tomorrow ply their trade, its time for Division 4.

A frantic 3 stage knockout qualifying has saw c0w3n line up on pole position and alongside him is Timole2511. On the 2nd row we'll see Pazuzu8195 and Lenbau04 who's making their SLR debut.

The lights are about to go out and Timole has jumped the start resulting in a drive through penalty as he takes the lead. It seems relatively clean through T1 but up at T3 there's a small moment between Darkstorm, Pazuzu and Cowen which allows Timole to break a lead.

JPPGaming96 Spins bringout a VSC and a retirement from Neymar11 put us down to 19. Timole tries to serve his penalty under the VSC but of course he cannot do this, thus the game changes his tyres to softs.

On lap 4 we lose SLR Russell to the ever swinging turn 13 which brings us the full safety car and see's the likes of Pazuzu and HarveyQC box alongside a few more.

Lap 8 we have the SC come in and the game disqualifies Timole for not serving his drive through althouh he can count himself unlucky due to the safety periods as we head to the action and Maxwell gets the jump on Darkstorm as we head into T1.

Lap 9 then so another VSC turn into a SC due to a collision between Stevo and Hickin, this prompted most others to box onto fresh hards who hadn't before.

Our restart under green conditions saw c0w3n lead the field with Pazuzu, SLRTOTOWOLF and NEDKLAW in hot pursuit.

The fresher tyres allowed Pazazu and Harvey to move up to 2nd and 3rd behind leader c0w3n on lap 14 with the field all mostly bunched on either mediums or hards.

Lap 16 saw a coming together between SLRTOTOWOLF and NEDKLAW promoting Maxwell and TNXBG to 4th and 5th with TNXBG then converting that to 4th a lap later.

SLR St2oh was having a quiet race in P6 but a very solid showing with richie chappell just behind at this point. Cxmzn would then take a place on richie on lap 18 midst a 3 way battle with Stevobrick included.

c0w3n then pitted on lap 20 to a pair of fresh softs giving himself 9 laps to make an impact when the tyres hit the right temps.

richie chappell has a spin on lap 20 aswell and after exchaning position TNXBG was back into 3rd ahead of Maxwell and chasing Pazuzu and Harvey.

c0w3n's fresh softs passed Stevo (Lap 21), Cxmzn (Lap 23) and St2oh (Lap 24) and up to 5th.

Pazuzu managed to hold a good gap over Harvey to pick up the win in the desert in the season opener with TNXBG rounding out your division 4 podium.

Incident 1: Stevobrick and DarkstormQC - Qualifying, Blocking/Dangerous driving

Outcome: 10 second time penalty and 2 licence points to DarkstormQC

Reason: DarkstormQC is warming his tyres on the racing line as Stevobrick approaches on a timed lap. Stevobrick has to take avoiding action. DarkstormQC should not have been on the racing line, and should not have been weaving on the racing line either.

Incident 2: SLRTOTOWOLF, SLR Hicklin and richie chappell - Lap 1, Dangerous Rejoin

Outcome: 15 second time penalty and 4 licence points to SLR Hicklin

Reason: SLR Hicklin re-enters the track without considering other cars may be passing. He spins richie chappell and causes front wing damage to SLRTOTOWOLF.

Incident 3: SLRTOTOWOLF, IxNeymarI11I, WimenLex, Baggiefan 1995 and NEDKLAW - Lap 2, Driving unnecessarily slowly under VSC

Outcome: 5 Seconds and 1 License point to IxNeymarI11I

Reason: IxNeymarI11I is driving around 10 seconds down on the delta without apparent good reason. The stewards agreed this is can be seen as dangerous driving.

Incident 4: SLRTOTOWOLF and NEDKLAW - Lap 16, Causing a collision

Outcome: 10 Second time penalty and 3 licence points to NEDKLAW

Reason: NEDKLAW misjudges his braking and collides with SLRTOTOWOLF spinning him around.

Incident 5: SLRTOTOWOLF and TNXBG - Qualifying, Blocking

Outcome: 5 Second time penalty and 2 licence points to TNXBG

Reason: TNXBG stays on the racing line throughout the lap hindering SLRTOTOWOLF.

Incident 6: TNXBG and DarkstormQC - Lap 9, Dangerous driving

Outcome: 5 Second time penalty and 2 licence points to DarkstormQC

Reason: DarkstormQC makes contact with TNXBG at T1 and T2, and then moves far too late on the run to T4, which almost causing a huge incident between both drivers.

Incident 7: TNXBG and DarkstormQC - Lap 9, Dangerous driving

Outcome: 5 Second time penalty and 2 licence points to DarkstormQC

Reason: DarkstormQC almost stops on the racing line to reduce his delta. The stewards deemed this highly unsafe as all drivers are given ample time to reduce their delta and thus the immediate braking on the racing line is unaceptable.

Incident 8: TNXBG and DarkstormQC - Lap 12, Causing a collision

Outcome: 5 second time penalty and 2 licence points to TNXBG

Reason: TNXBG initially brakes well, but once rolling through T1 doesn't account for DarkstormQC being slightly slower and spins him around.

Incident 9: TNXBG and Lenbau04 - Lap 13, Causing a collision
