McKeon

More chaos from the top division.

Round 12 of the SLR McKeon championship and we are at the Temple of Speed, Monza. The fastest track on the calendar but it is one where you are so on the limit at all times there is almost no break for any of the drivers to collect their thoughts. With the lead at the top of the championship at 34 points, will WTurn3r find a way to extend his lead at the top or will he falter and give another driver a chance to gain points on him and make his life difficult?

Another dry qualifying session this week, but with this track so difficult to nail a lap going flat out many struggled, contenders fell, but by the end, it was SLR Corey who would take the pole position! A track he loves does the reserve man and really showed his pace here and surely going into the race he should be the favourite to win the whole thing. Second place was SLR Jam40 who in recent races has really begun to get some good results, for a track he likes this is a good result for him and definitely gives him the ability to kick on and get himself closer to the championship battle which is for sure possible with a fair few races left to go this season. Rounding off the top 3 was TV8 Ogween, who for the main contender to WTurn3r, will be happy to qualify ahead of his rival, and I’m sure he has the belief in himself to go and win this thing with it being a track he has been strong at in the recent history.

The race was one with battles all over the field, fairly mundane until there was a Safety Car at Lap 17 which caused chaos all over the grid with the drivers having to build their gaps all over again, but after the action it would be TV8 Ogween who would come home and take another win this season! An assured drive from the Alfa Romeo driver who was battling with SLR Corey the entire race, swapping positions with the reserve driver but when it came to keeping his cool and not getting a penalty for track limits that’s what has helped him get this result, and surely puts him in the driving seat to take the fight to WTurn3r for the lead of the championship. Finishing in Second place was SLR Jam40, who gets another podium this season, his resurgence in the last couple of races has been admirable, and it really is going to help him be able to get him inside the battle for the Driver’s championship and I’m hoping he can keep this up and we can see a fascinating end to the season. Rounding off the top 3 was SemmF1 who took his first podium of the season! After a rocky start of the season, he has really begun to piece together some good results and after a Lap 1 incident I’m sure it is a result that he did not expect to happen but he made it happen with his pace keeping with the top 3 and gaining off of a late track limit penalty of SLR Corey to take this great result. Other notable drives would be Riggsey x, who just keeps being able to find a strong race pace, keep himself out of trouble and be in the right place taking P6 in the end from starting in P14 is impressive from him and if he could qualify a bit higher he could really begin to gain even bigger point hauls.

Even though the race might have been one of the more boring races this season, it shows that this season has been entertaining throughout and the levels are high with every mistake proving pivotal with penalties and finding the limits of the track. Next week we are off to the Shangai International Circuit, China. A track so difficult with a bunch of fast swinging corners which need an expert hand to be able to perfect them, and with the track being very difficult on tyre temps and tyre wear due to the high force put into the tyres it is one which is a tough track for all but sure to bring a good race, Until then though hope everyone has a great week!

Division 2

Round 12 of the championship brought us to the temple of speed, Monza. Qualifying brought a big twist with OwenHowell36 , he who shall not be named, managing not to spin for once, and put in the perfect lap to take pole position. He was two tenths clear of championship leader J Lee Menz who completed the front row of the grid.

After a very long hold at the lights the racing got underway and it was a slow start for our pole sitter OwenHowell who by the approach to turn 1 found himself down in 3rd place. Both J Lee Menz and Kislesko were able to get the jump on him.

Through the first lesmo there seemed to be carnage towards the rear of the field with multiple cars having to take evasive action to avoid contact. The biggest loser in all of this LSW L3G3ND who ended up facing the wrong way and dropping all the way to last. Not the start he needed with J Lee Menz going into the weekend with a huge 57 point lead over Legend. On lap 2 Kislesko managed to overtake J Lee Menz for the lead.

The laps just kept on coming with a handful of drivers having spins and pitting early. Drivers who now relied upon a safety car to get back into this race, something you would expect with Division 2 especially at a track like Monza.

After 7 laps it was all the same at the front Kislesko was holding off J Lee Menz and OwenHowell successfully. But on lap 8 Menz was able to get the better exit from the parabolica and utilise the DRS to throw the car down the inside into the first corner.

By lap 12 it had turned into a five way battle for the lead with Kemence61 and VapidCoot74 clawing the leaders in. But at the end of lap 12 VapidCoot dived into the pits to attempt the undercut on the others. Two of which OwenHowell and Kemence started on the alternative strategy with the hard tyres. Lap 13 Kislesko and Kemence react, surprising to see Kemence in this early and could leave him struggling for grip at the end of the race. VapidCoot wasn’t able to pull off the undercut and stayed behind Kemence.

Lap 14 championship leader J Lee Menz pits and manages to rejoin just ahead of Kislesko as the two drivers almost ended up side by side going into turn 1. But half a lap later on the approach to ascari Kislesko is able to utilse his warmer tyres and overtake Menz. At the end of Lap 15 OwenHowell also pits. Not just for a change of tyres but also a front wing! A decision that dropped him behind Kemence and VapidCoot by 4 seconds.

Lap 16/17 Kemence is able to perform quick back to back overtakes on Kislesko and J Lee Menz for P3 on track but what truthfully is for the net race lead. due to drivers ahead yet to stop. He overtook Kemence on entry to the parabolica and then used DRS to fly past Menz on the main straight.

Into ascari on lap 20 OwenHowell finally manages to get past VapidCoot and back into P4 and has 7 laps to close the gap on Kemence for a podium position. Onto lap 23 and the long approach to turn 1 OwenHowell does get past Kislesko into third. The top 4 is covered by less than 2 seconds with only a handful of laps remaining.

Owen wasted no time in getting past J Lee Menz and up into second place with another move performed on the main straight. Owen now only had 2 laps left to keep the charge going and catch Kemence out in first place with his 2 lap fresher medium tyres. However a lot less battery to use.

Onto the final lap and Owen crosses the line exactly a second behind Kemence with a lot of work to do. They are 2 seconds clear of J Lee Menz back in third so this has become a two horse race for the victory today. Owen is not able to get anywhere near Kemence on the approach to turn 1 so it is looking good for the Alpine driver.

Through the lesmo’s Kislesko is able to get within half a second of J Lee Menz in the battle for third, so none of the podium positions are set going into the final half of the lap.

Kemence keeps his cool and more importantly keeps OwenHowell behind to take the victory at Monza! J Lee Menz just about holds onto 3rd place from Kemence to round off the podium. But more shockingly we were able to go the full race without a VSC or Safety Car which is crazy to say.

Join us next week when we will be returning to China for the first time in 3 SLR seasons for what I am sure will be another cracking race.

Incident involving SLR Fryer and Big Mike1859 - Lap 1, Turn 6;

10 Second Penalty and 2 license points to Big Mike for spinning another car causing multiple collisions. The contact between Big Mike and Fryer can also be seen as the reason behind the Legend and QWERTY incident.

While the contact isn’t major it causes multiple incidents behind hence the penalty given.

Incident involving SLR Mash and Active JMC - Lap 15, main straight:

No further action - Based off of the evidence received we have no reason to believe that JMC was attempting anything untoward as well as this there was no contact between the two drivers and so we don’t feel as though we have enough evidence to suggest a penalty should be given.

Incident involving Division 2 - Lap 1:

Reminder to all drivers to take extra care when racing one another on the first lap, be mindful of slower speeds through corners and extended braking zones with cars bunching up, going side by side etc

EO31Echo vs Mellow. - qualifying incident

Outcome: 3LP to Mellow

We feel that going into turn 1 Echo is on a push lap and Mellow unnecessarily breaks later and just completely blocks Echo’s lap. In this scenario a big penalty is necessary.

TIR Haze vs Lenbau04 vs QRT Tyler- Lap 1 Incident

Outcome: 3 seconds and 1LP to Lenbau04

Even though this is an unfortunate lap 1 incident ruining Haze’s race and DNF’ing Tyler, we feel that Lenbau moves over and causes the collision but due to it being a Lap 1 incident feel the penalty shouldn't be too harsh.

Lofty I vs SmitHPDanX01 Push to pass- Lap 27

Outcome: NFA

We feel that in the clip provided, Dan doesn’t get tagged behind he just loses the car turning too much, and also a big increase in throttle making him lose the car so we don’t feel Lofty here is at any blame at all.
