F1 returns to action at the Hungaroring

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

McKeon

Round 10 of the SLR McKeon championship is at the Hungaroring, Hungary. A fascinating track with many fast corners and barely any time for the drivers to catch a breath and combined with the fact the main straight is the only real overtaking opportunity this track is one of the most strategic of them all.

The qualifying was a dry one and with invalidated laps very easy to get here it would take everything each driver had to hook together a lap. But after all 18 minutes of the session, it would BMidzy to take pole position! Another good result for the McLaren driver is a driver who showed a very strong pace but has been undone by a few incidents in previous races, this will help him avoid the carnage into Turn 1 and hopefully, he’ll find some more luck this time round in the race. Second, in the end, was Adzzz37 x. A reserve who hasn’t done many races as of late, but from other team races, I know how quick he can be and showed it with a great lap not being far off Midzy in the end, but second on the grid for one of the longest distances from the start to Turn 1 he could definitely attack at the start and give Midzy a run for his money. Rounding off the top was drast1k bLazE. Another great Quali from the Alpha Tauri driver, really proving why he got moved up only a handful of races ago and certainly can add to his impressive points tally as of now.

The race was also a dry one and there were no safety cars in the race which made for many strategies from around the field, but after all 35 laps, it would be Snypz SB to take the race win! A result that is going to give him so much more ground in the Drivers championship, he has been fantastic so far this season and certainly doesn’t seem like backing off the pace now. Second place in the end was BMidzy. I’m sure he’ll be a little disappointed not to have won in the end, but P2 is definitely nothing he should frown upon, some good points to add to his tally, and maybe if he can continue doing well add his name to the list in the driver's championship. Rounding off the top 3 was Adzzz37 x. A good result for the reserve driver, a guy who is always quick around most tracks showed off some fine pace and got himself a deserved podium, hopefully, we can see him more as he has the ability to consistently fight at the top in this division.

A fantastic set of sessions with battling everywhere you looked and the strategies faring good or bad one way or another was a great race to watch for all involved and spectators. Next up we are off to the Ardennes Forest with Spa, Belgium. The longest track on the calendar, a vast change from Hungary, with qualifying laps so tricky to hook up there it, could definitely make or break races if a driver severely underperforms and slips up, but until then, I hope everyone has a great week!

Incident 1:

Toby vs. Adz - Lap 35 - Push To Pass

Outcome: NFA

Reason: Yes adz dives into the corner late but does it cleanly and keeps the inside and doesn't make contact with Toby or push him off track until Toby turns into him

Incident 2

Riggsey vs. SLR Corey - Lap 4 - Forcing Another Driver Off Track

Outcome: NFA

Reason: We the stewards believe this is just hard racing

Division 2

After a 2 week hiatus following the events at Silverstone, SLR heads to Hungaroring. With a new championship challenger entering the fray, what would the track dubbed as “Monaco without the barrier” deliver…?

Qualifying

The aforementioned new championship challenger continued his qualifying prowess, with Scar B0rga taking a 3rd successive pole! In second was new full time McLaren driver Ski Fee, and the usual Haas of Beast continuing his consistent too placings in qualifying.

The Race

With all 3 tyres being used within the top 4, we head to the 5 red lights to get back racing. And into turn 1, Scar held off Ski despite the tyre difference (Scar on the medium and Ski on the soft). Not much movement elsewhere in the grid, except for the 2 Ferraris and Legend and Kirito to commit what can only be described as usual Ferrari shenanigans, with Legend sending his teammate into the shadow realm.

Give it till lap 4 and Ski would take the lead, diving into turn 2.

And give it till lap 5 for the first safety car period of the race, with Owen getting a little too happy on the throttle and sending his Haas into the wall and out of the race! With being on the soft tyre, the leader, Ski, would take a dive into the pits handing back Scar the lead.

Lap 8 would bring the end of the safety car period, with QWERTY making an initial move on Liam before a scary bit of dueling between himself, JMC and Vapid.

Beast would be the next person to take the lead from Scar, getting ahead into turn 1 and holding the lead until the next safety car period at lap 13.

Ski would stay out, with Haze, and everyone else would take the opportunity to get onto the hards for the remainder of the race.

Lap 16 would be the 3rd start to the race, with Ski leading the pack.

Haze and Beast would have moments together, with Beast still not able to get past until a few laps later. Scar would be passed by ThatGuy, with the Red Bull going into 5th.

Beast would take the lead not too long later, getting ahead of Ski when he entered the pits.

Scar would take second, going into turn 1 on lap 27, and hoping he could have the pace to potentially win the race.

With the gap closing rapidly, Scar and Beast would have the chance to run themselves hard until the very end.

And Scar would ultimately take his chance on the penultimate lap, dumping all the battery possible to make the move.

And even with Moley on comms attempting to jinx him during the race, and the tragic events that had occurred between races, Scar would make a statement Mark by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix, a second in a row! Beast would take second. QWERTY would take 3rd to round out the podium.

And with all that said and done, and a championship lead deficit once again, SLR heads to the longest lap on the calendar, to Spa-Francorchamps.

LSW Legend Vs Kirito - 10s and 3LP to Legend for causing a major collision (converted to QB due to DNF)

Legend brakes way to late and smashes into the back of Kirito causing major damage. Whilst the weaving on the straight has been noted we feel as though Kirito is far enough ahead at the very start of the race for this to not be a factor in the final collision.

SLR Fryer pit entry - NFA

The stewards have concluded that Fryer is in the pit lane when overtaking cars, thus this is a legal action and so no penalty will be awarded.

SLR Moley vs. Richie Chappell - Attempted Assassination - Lap 34

Outcome: Race Ban and 4LP to Richie Chappell.

Bit of a crazy incident, with clear intent to retire the other car, here we have no choice but to punish the driver with a heavy penalty.

SLR Vettel vs Fat ted24 Quali incident

Outcome: Quali Ban and 3LP

Another freak incident, another one with no intent of taking the corner normally but because of it being in quali we feel this penalty is just.
