Hungary

McKeon

Hungary is sometimes referred to as ‘Monaco without the barriers’. Therefore quali would be crucial. Q2 was intriguing as there would be a split of tyre choice. 7 drivers got into q3 on the softs and 3 on the mediums.

First of the medium runners was ogween, who would have a brilliant Q3 session and get himself on pole position over midzy, who was the second medium runner. Crispy was the third driver on the mediums and had an unfortunate q3 ending 9th. As I’m writing the blog I’m also going to give myself a shoutout for qualifying 6th too. Yay.

Now the start of the race where midzy would pass ogween on lap 1. The red bull driver wouldn’t just be passed by midzy tho. Struggling on his mediums he got swamped, being passed by sora, Andres, jibjab, chungus, semm and crispy! Midzy somehow kept his lead in the first few laps, allowing him to pull away from the soft runners once their tyres started to die. First of the soft runners to pit were semm and sora, with Sora for the hards and semm on the mediums. This allowed them both to gain decently, but once the other soft runners pitted a few laps later for mediums they would be super fast, gaining massively.

However before they could get up to sora the safety car was deployed. This slightly spoiled a potential fight between crispy, midzy and ogween on the alt strat and the soft runners as it meant most of the field would pit. This shook up the field massively though! Suddenly ogween and crispy were in p3 and p2 respectively and crowding was into the top 5. The caveat however was that the top few drivers were on the hards and those who had pitted twice were on the mediums. Sora was the lead medium runner and began to work his way through the pack, getting up to p2 before another safety car as semm binned it. insert Charles leclerc gif here

This SC caused half the field to pit. There were 7 drivers on older tyres at the front of the field ,with everyone else behind on fresh softs.

V2 was the lead soft runner and carved his way through the pack. Meanwhile sora overtook midzy for the lead, although he had a 3 second time penalty. Cruicially, Midzy managed to stay in Sora’s drs as v2 closed up to the pair of them. Entering the final lap the gap was half a second from v2 to midzy and as hard as he tried, the Alfa Romeo driver could not get close enough to the championship leader. The final result was crowding in p3 with no pens, v2 in p2 and midzy P1. Sora would get DOTD despite the pen. Well done to everyone who finished the race as Hungary is a very difficult track.

Onto Belgium next week, which is many people’s favourite track. Can midzy jam’s record of most wins in a row in SLR at the iconic track??

Incident involving Raceroller22, ParaQuickz and Riggsey x - Lap 1 (Spinning another car)

Outcome: Racing incident

Reason: After reviewing all available footage, the stewards have determined that this is a racing incident. It is seen that coming into the corner Para is in a position where he can be classed as alongside and therefore is entitled to the space. Coming through the corner and into the exit, Roller comes across the line of Para despite Paras front left being alongside (shown too by the red arrow marker) Rollers rear right resulting in Roller spinning. The aspect of being lap 1 & the position of Para having a car to his left also came into this evaluation & therefore resulted in a racing incident.

Incident involving Merkz47 & JibJab325 - Lap 30 (causing a collision)

Outcome: 1LP awarded to JibJab325

Reason: The stewards have reviewed the footage and determined that going through the S section in sector 2, it is seen by the stewards that Merkz receives a punt from behind which results in him running wider than he would have otherwise. JibJab, along with a host of other cars get past in this instance.

However, it is also noted that Merkz was already wide to the apex before the contact, and therefore the stewards feel that it would have been harsh to award a time penalty in this instance. The number of cars that overtakes Merkz after the contact also does not play a role in the penalty due to the lack of relevance the initial contact has in many of the overtakes later on.

Division 1

For the last race of week at Hungary it was Division 1 action which would have a huge effect on the championship standings.

It was the two Alpines of Leviking and SLR Ham p1 - p3 and championship protagonists of Elite riskz and SLR Cech in p2 and p4. The Alpines got off the line well and Ham managed to jump Elite heading to turn 1 and join his team mate at the front.

For Elite things didn't get any better because also on lap 1 Cech managed to get past him which would mean Cech as it stands would extend his championship lead to over 30 points. On lap 1 we saw our first retirement in SLR qauttro no pit stops and no postion changes after the VSC was deployed. Following the VSC the very few soft runners where making moves as they had to make the most of their soft tyres. ARL Tooman was the one making the most progress as he would go from p11 to p4 in the opening 3 laps and choose to pit early on lap 4. Unfortunately, for him at least, his strategy didn't go to plan and spun by himself which put him out of contention and then retired in the pits.

After a quiet stage in the race lap 11 would be the start of where the mediums runners would play their strategy card. SLR Jam was the first to pull the pin and go for the medium - hard strategy. Ham would follow suit on the next lap aswell as his team mate and J Lee menz on the lap after. The latter would cause a big turning point in the race as Menz would crash and retire on lap 14 which would bring out a full course saftey car and due to the timing of the saftey car being called p1 - p8 couldn't pit and would be held by the saftey car and would lose loads of time and some would lose multiple places. Most notably Elite riskz who would come out p9 Behind Arb0n EPA who was having a quiet race himself being stuck in the lead drs train

Leviking would play a strategy masterclass pit again onto mediums which would comfortably go to the end and put himself into a great position to win the race being p5 on fresh mediums while the majority of the grid was on hards. The saftey car restart would provide chaos and would cause Drama for the championship as the leader of the standings SLR Cech would Smash into a very slow moving SLR Vandoorne and both his front wheels would fly off and this would hand the opportunity for other drivers to close in on Cech and bring spice back into the championship.

The other incident on the saftey restart was between Arb0n EPA and DPT Paul. Arb0n would get 0 traction on the turn 1 exit kerb causing his car to swoop to the right leaving Paul the innocent party and would smash into the wall and would also DNF this would leave 11 runners left in the race after only 16 starting.

These incidents above would break up the drs train leaving the top 4 to run away of the 3 early pitters and of Ham, Jam, levi and Zachisbeast in p4 who was having an impressive race after calling the saftey car period perfectly.

Levi would struggle to get past the two leaders as the "monaco without the barriers" would prove its namesake. However disaster would soon strike for Ham as he was having wheel problems and would have to go into Ai mode and because of the track jam and levi couldn't get past easily as Ham's car would be a major distraction this indirectly would bring Elite, Jensen who was also making good progress on mediums, SimbarocksONE, Arb0n, Shutmedal and too some extent Barlow back into the race and reform the drs train for the top 9.

Unfortunately on lap 26 Ham's Ai would cause more than a distraction going through Turn 4 the Alpines AI would go really slow on the apex and that would catch out Jesen who smashed into the back of him and hit the wall on the left hand side which would end his race this crashed caused a domino effect for Simba as he would hit jensen but fortunately for him he would remain in the race and had a chance to fight back as the saftey car was deployed for that crash.

Another strategy call was needed to be made as Levi stayed out in p1 on his relatively fresh mediums Ham now out of Ai mode stayed on the hards with Jam as they look to hold onto track postion. Everyone else would pit for fresh softs for final sprint to the finish.

On lap 29 would be where the action would start to kick off Zachisbeast who was having a great race in p4 and a major chance of a podium would see all his hard work be undone as he spun on the fast right hander ending sector 3 a gutter for the Mclaren driver and I'm sure most people feel for him as he deserved so much better than p10. Meanwhile the hard runners of Jam and Ham where getting swarmed by Angry soft runners. Elite was the first to make moves and unfortunately would end in contact at turn 1 Ham hitting Elites right rear would send Ham into a half spin which let all the soft runners past a disappointing and end to once a promising one for Ham. Elite would also get past jam but cleaner this time and set after Levi who pulled a major gap on hard runners and the battling

The battle for podium was still very open as Simba and Arb0n swapped positions and Aston Martin made his move on Jam unfortunately more contact was made and Simba spins round at turn 2 and podium chances down the drain. He would end up p8 and not the points gain he would of liked on Cech considering what might of been. This left Arb0n to overtake jam but decided against it and played it safe as he had in his words a "stupid" penalty. This would be to the annoyance of Shutmedal and Barlow who couldn't have a shot at the podium but still finish p4 and p5 and Barlows best result of the season. Arb0n would have to settle for p6 after not scoring since Spain a result he will take. The once championship contender may be able to get his season back on track with this result.

But back to the front it was leviking to take his maiden win in SLR from Elite riskz in p2 who cuts the championship gap to 11 points after Cech's DNF. Jam who held was brave sticking to hards but gets p3 on track.

SPA next week Can Elite riskz close the gap or overtake Cech or will Cech bounce back and show why he is the championship leader make sure you watch on Monday to find out.

Division 2

So after the mid season break division 2 is back! With a trip to the always unpredictable Hungarian Grand Prix. Going into the race the Alfa Romeo drivers are locked in a two horse race for the championship. They have a 40 point lead to their closest challenger.

VapidCoot74 claimed pole position in a close fought battle with his teammate I VR46 I and OwenHowell36. Owen managed to put his Alpine into P2.

As the 5 red lights go out it’s a clean start to the race, through turn 1 at least. VapidCoot74 manages to retain the lead where just behind him OwenHowell36 and I VR46 I are jostling for P2.

Now turn 1 may have been clean but that cannot be said for the rest of the first lap. We end up with multiple cars facing the wrong way, including OwenHowell36 who drops from second to the very back. He manages to get going but with those warm tyres ends up spinning again, into a wall and causing our first retirement. Owens retirement caused a VSC and we had 6 drivers pit at the end of lap 1 to repair damage.

As we get back underway it seems division 2 normal service resumes where the two Alfa Romeos are out in front and working on building a gap. The curbs of the Hungaroring took 2 victims in quick succession on lap 3/4. Adrian VIII was the first to go followed by Darren I 22. This caused our second VSC which just kept the pack within touching distance of the Alfa’s.

We only make it to lap 6 before our first full safety car. SLR Allen is the poor soul to meet his end this time and again it was those pesky curbs.

By lap 14 the race seems to have divided into 2. We have the top 7 scrapping it out for the glory and then the rest a few seconds back. There is also a sudden shift in the air, the clear blue skies are gone and replaced by some very dark looking clouds. It seems rain may be on the horizon.

Lap 18 and all is as was, apart from the rain has started to fall. Very lightly but it is falling never the less. It is still the two Alfa Romeo drivers P1 and P2 with BadOtterTV currently sitting in P3.

Onto lap 24 and the race leader VapidCoot74 dives into the pit lane and puts on a set of fresh Softs. Showing that even though the rain is falling it isn’t falling quick enough for the intermediate tyres.

This caused a flurry of activity in the pit lane for lap 25 with 6 more drivers deciding to get off the mediums tyres they started the race on and going to the Softs. During all of this the rain does seem to be getting heavier and puddles seem to be forming. I wonder if they’ve all reacted too quickly?

Simon37M and legendarydannyd are the only two who decide to wait a little longer on the possibility of it becoming intermediate conditions soon. But with those very aged tyres will they last long enough.

ARL PReDaToRZz has managed to work his way up into P3 on a set of mediums far younger than those of the two drivers ahead. They are fresh enough to make it to the end so I wonder if Predator has pulled off a master stroke here.

Disaster strikes for Simon37M. As he is attempting to pit on lap 27 he ends up crashing into the pit wall! Losing his wing but remaining to keep all 4 tyres on the car. This gifts ARL PReDaToRZz the lead with only 7 laps to go.

A little further back down the road SLR Liamm loses control of his McLaren and crashes out. This results in another safety car. The question is now will people remain on those fresh Softs till the end or will such a late safety car lead to everyone jumping onto the intermediates.

And everyone apart from the 2 Alfa Romeos decide to pit for intermediate tyres! Bold call by the Alfa team and on which will either be genius or cost them everything this race. ARL PReDaToRZz holds P3 after showing he has played his strategy brilliant up to this point.

The safety car returns to the pits and gives us 4 laps to sort this out. Both Alfa’s tumble down the order before we even make it through turn 1 which just shows they made the wrong choice sticking it out on those soft tyres.

So this has given ARL PReDaToRZz the lead and currently SLR Morgan is in P2 with legendarydannyd sitting in third. But with the full pack close together and extremely difficult track conditions anything could happen before the end.

Lap 33 and legendarydannyd picks up a time penalty! So in order to claim a podium position he really needs to get a move on as the field is still so condensed after the safety car.

Around the final corner they come and it is ARL PReDaToRZz who takes the win! SLR Morgan holds onto P2. But P3, legendarydannyd looked to have it in the bag after creating the required gap to the cars behind. However he lost it on the exit of the final corner and crashes out on the pit wall itself!

This means even though he looked set to cross the line in P5 SLR Moley manages to secure himself a surprise podium as his teammate SouthRaptor966 who was in P4 also had a time penalty.

So that wraps us up from the Hungaroring in what proved to be a very surprising race. Join us next week as we head to the idiclic setting of Spa-Francorchamps.

Division 3

In division 3 this week a not so good attendance meant you had to be pretty unlucky not to make Q3. Lots tried to get through on the medium compound to start the race and only 4 drivers managed that.

In Q3 though SLR Jack took pole by almost 3 tenths from GoldenEggFryer. MVT Hurww lined up on the second row alongside SLR xhaka.

To the race then and it was MVT Hurww taking advantage of starting on softs to the two cars in front and he took the lead. DRaSt1k bLaZe also moved up a couple places on the start.

Come to lap 4 and MVT hurww seemed to run wide and tap the wall forcing him into an early stop and would retire.

With SLR Jack now leading GoldenEggFryer got passed blaze as his softs ran out of grip and the medium tyre runners were now looking more pacey.

The race seemed to settle for next few laps. SLR Leah made a move on active jmc for 3rd well GoldenEggFryer gradually caught SLR Jack and just has he overtook him had a snap of oversteer which saw him in there wall and out of the race, a safety was needed to clear the damage this allowed everyone to pit.

Thatguy was now on mediums to the end of the race that gave him a slight advantage and he got passed active jmc into 3rd then SLR made a mistake and that allowed him up to P2 and the chance to chase down Jack.

The race settled again as fat ted24 got through on active jmc to P4. Then with 7 laps to go a safety car. SLR Jack and thatguy stayed out well the rest of the field pit for fresh softs.

SLR Leah now looking to take advantage with the fresher faster tyres. Two cars to get passed though and it took a couple laps to get passed thatguy who ran a bit wide and allowed Leah to take advantage and then chase after Jack for the win.

Jack had no answer running on old hard tyres to Leah’s softs and was an easy move on the straight with drs. Then just one lap to see it out for Leah who took his first win of the season. Jack would hold on for P2. DRaSt1k bLaZe took P3. Thatguy P4. SLR James P5 and Reserve driver debutant aps apie picking P6. Fat ted despite retiring on last lap will pick up the points for P7. And that’s all that finished this time out

Division 4

As SLR Division 4 take to the 4.381km race circuit of Hungaroring. Track conditions were perfect for Qualifying and the race with minimal chance of rain. Championship Leader BigBag92 couldn’t have asked for a better qualifying session finishing P2, P1 and P1 respectively with an admirable time of 1:15.993. The Top 6 in qualifying separated by 0.2s. Qualifying finished and onto the race, all of BigBag’ hard work was undone by two drive through penalties. Now one driver to mention who clearly doesn’t understand what track limits are. Russell fought valiantly to hold onto what would arguably have been his best ever result in SLR. Track exceeding penalties dropped him to his finishing position P7 behind both the Red Bulls with a respectable result for both drivers.

Onto Belgium now, how many victims will Eau Rouge & Raidillon claim?

Incident 1: SLR Marsh vs Stevobrick - Lap 32, Causing a collision

Outcome: 3 License Points to Stevobrick

Reason: The stewards agreed that Stevobrick was fully at fault of causing the collision. The stewards found that Stevobrick lost the rear of his own car by driver error and this caused his car to collide with SLR Marsh. Under normal circumstances a 5 second time penalty would have applied, but in this instance it would make no difference to the finishing order and thus 3 License Points were seen as more appropriate.
