Hungaroring

Welcome back everyone to yet another race report! Last week, SLR raced around the Hungaroring, with high drama and great racing across all divisions this weekend. Beginning off with elite, and what a race it was! Stunning overtakes, battling, and incidents filled the entire race, and let’s dive deeper into it, shall we?

After a stunning last lap overtake on reigning champ HamJam2002 (my overtake of the season so far), ZyDRAD took victory for the first time this season, charging through the field after a disappointing qualifying to take top step on the podium! HamJam2002 closely followed him behind in second, nearly 5 tenths off Zy in the end. bezzas1 held onto third after a shock pole position, one that many was not expecting, with Crispy2001 behind. Special mention to Crispy for an unbelievable drive from last, and shoutout to his mum for getting him into the lobby (and resuming his career mode). ABR Freeman settled for fifth after a last lap penalty cost him 4th and possibly a podium, with raceroller22 behind in 6th. BDunk came home in 7th, a result I’m sure the Williams driver will be pleased with, with Hoopolicious behind him in 8th after on-track penalties cost him a podium. After being spun by Jam, Gho3t C0LT recovered to finish 9th, with UKBeastAssassin rounding out our top 10.

SLR Rando dropped down from his P7 starting position to finish just outside of the points in P11, with Flembog also dropping down after an early incident to finish P12. KevinGT9389 and Xx JamHam xX both dropped from the top 10 to finish P13 and P14 respectively after each were awarded post-race penalties for spinning another car. Finally, SLR Southerner rounded out our finishers after a late drive through cost him another chance at points. Our non-finishers were: V2 x Combat, LP Smoke, MeRkz47, PaRa Quickz, and SLR Niki.

That does it for us this week. Thank you for tuning in for all of the races this weekend, we hope to see you next week for Spa, a track I’m sure many are looking forward to!

Merkz vs Flembog - Lap 2

NFA

As stewards we believe this is down to the game. Flembog looks to have bounced off the wall after contact and returned to track. Merkz and other drivers have overtaken flembog and unfortunately merkz has been asked to return the place, Whilst others haven’t.

Merkz vs Flembog - lap 29

NFA

Due to the poor connection from flembog the clips contradict what happens. With flembog clips and connection issue it’s impossible to penalise a driver for on what their screen didn’t happen.

Note to Elite admins; advised to test flembog’s connection before next race with the host of the division to determine wether this is going to be a reoccurring factor or if this was an unfortunate one off.

Colt vs Jam - Lap 23

Spinning another car - 15 Seconds 1LP

Watching both POV the stewards have determined that the Williams was at fault for this incident. Although the initial stage of the over take was clean and faultless coming out of the exit we believe colt has left jam enough room but due to a slight backend slip from the Williams causing jam to correct himself making the contact with colt initiating the spin.

Ghost - Unsafe rejoin.

1LP

In the incident witnessed above in the turn 1 incident, which causes drivers to drive through him as he reverses on track.

Jam - rejoining track ; Warning

As all drivers avoided the driver rejoining it is deemed he doesn’t warrant a penalty. However in another situation this could have been dangerous so a warning is issued.

Para quickz vs kevinGT

KevinGT - 15 Seconds 3LP *

From the POV of para it shows the pair battling side by side and as para takes the position coming out of turn 2, kevinGT makes contact with para causing him to spin.

*KevinGT will receive a free appeal to submit any evidence he may have and a statement. This will be reviewed with Elites head steward and the appeals team if KevinGT wishes to do as such.

Round 13 of the Division One Championship sees the grid head out to Hungary for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Tight, Twisty, Technical, the 3 Ts made up the main characterisations of the circuit as it has a renowned history for difficult racing and overtaking, and greater emphasis on the strategy and tyre management meant that qualifying was treated as the headline event.

Qualifying definitely made some headlines as the battle for P2 in the championship was beginning to heat up, and it was even more interesting to see that 4 of the 5 protagonists, Babatunde Sr, SLR Semm, SillyBunny47711 and Bennett628, all made their exits in Q2 and opted for the alternate strategy going ahead, and Q3 was going to be an exciting affair. Riggsey x was showing solid pace all through the qualifying sessions, and to his luck, set the pole position time early in the final session, as he ended up in the barrier at T4 on his final run, a confidence knocker. His time of a 1:13.331 was enough to secure his first SLR Pole Position and would share the front row with SLR Connor, who was +0.085 behind, and SLR McKeon would start the race in P3 for Haas, +0.240 off the pole time, but in a very strong P3. Championship Leader BrindyBoi67 would be starting the race in P6

The race start would see SLR McKeon react quickest and get the best launch to shoot himself between Riggsey x and SLR Connor. Riggsey had significant wheelspin but was able to hold onto P2 and follow SLR McKeon with SLR Connor slotting in behind. With driver strategy splitting the grid, it was going to be an interesting affair going forward. The start was relatively keen and quiet until the undercut was triggered by the Renault driver on Lap5 after losing touch with the Haas at the front. The undercut would prove to be a decisive move, but only just.

The main antagonist for the race leaders would be traffic, and that was the Achilles Heel for the two leaders, after SillyBunny47711 was caught up in a small mistake, he was leading Riggsey x and SLR McKeon for most of the race, as the hard tyre strategy meant he would be going long. Bowennn was an early disqualification after being parked up facing the opposite way into T6 after some technical issues which ended his day early.

While the Likes of Bennett628 and SillyBunny47711 going long, it also allowed JibJab325 and SLR Vandoorne to creep back into the conversation and they joined the back of the train on the fresher rubber, but also what was worth noting in this melee as well was the early stop by SLR Semm off the hards. A move that would see him bypass and undercut Babatunde Sr, who would have to settle in behind and a move that the McLaren driver would hope that paid off.

Bennett628 and SillyBunny47711 ended up stretching their worn hards to lap 26/27 to go for a final stint on the fresh softs and see if they could take advantage of the grip and a light car, the two, albeit not holding up Riggsey x or SLR McKeon all that much, or at all if that, decided to part their ways and allow the Renault driver to resume the lead of the race, a net P1 and P1 on track, that would soon be hounded by SLR McKeon, Jibjab325 and SLR Vandoorne, and pounded by penalties which would shift the momentum and have a big role in the final outcomes.

With the Renault driver trying to bridge a gap at the end and the tyres falling off the cliff at the end, Riggsey x may have taken the chequered flag on Lap35, but it was JibJab325 to take his first ever league racing win at the Hungaroring, a massive congratulations on breaking the duck to the Racing Point driver who capitalised on the leaders being caught in some traffic as well as keeping a clean and consistent race at one of Formula One’s most challenging circuits, a real feel good story for all and it is a very commendable achievement given the breadth of talent across the division, a brilliant way to kick off the SLR Weekend. JibJab was also given the DOTD vote for his clean, consistent and intelligent driving. Riggsey x would continue his resurgence with back to back P2 finishes and SLR McKeon keeping the leaders honest with some rapid pace and a late push, the Haas driver makes a welcome return to the podium circle before we all head off to Spa.

In Hungary we were hoping to continue our recent trend of clean racing from Austria and Britain in Div 2, however it must be said that it was not the case this weekend. After 9 DNF’s and 4 Safety Cars we were not pleased at all, and after all we have tried to do to stop this, us admins are not happy, and so will be going against the driver vote and turning on ghosting for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately due to the lack of racecraft from a few, those who did well shall not be celebrated this week in the race report properly. We hope to see a vast improvement in Belgium next week.

OwenHowell36 - 5 second penalty removal (lap 13)

Outcome: 5 Seconds removed for OwenHowell36

Reason: The stewards feel the 5 second penalty gained is unfair on 3 grounds. 1) it was not gained under the Safety car as the game would suggest by the “severe collision”. 2) The penalty gained we feel is not reflective of what is fair. 3) The contact made between the 2 cars was not what caused Zach to retire from the race. This along with sufficient race director evidence is reason enough to remove the penalty.

OwenHowell36 - 5 second penalty removal (lap 23)

Outcome: +20 Seconds + 4LP for OwenHowell36 for a collision caused under SC

Reason: Owen clearly does not leave enough space between himself and Leah, and there is no reason for him initiating the contact. His defence suggesting that Scopezz car being up his backside is rejected on the grounds that if Scopezz makes contact, then that would be deemed his fault, but no contact is actually made. Therefore, the stewards see this as entirely the fault of Owen in this instance, and award him a penalty for a collision under the safety car.

SLR Scopezz vs OwenHowell36 - removal of 5 second penalty + Potential Brake check

Outcome: 10s + 2LP awarded to OwenHowell36

Reason: The evidence given to the stewards clearly shows Owen’s McLaren to brake check Scopezz, giving him no real option but to run into the back of him. Evidence also shows Owen to be in AI mode at this point and this AI control is what causes the brake check. While this is not directly Owen’s fault, he (along with all other drivers) are responsible for the actions of their car while pausing the game to record clips etc. Therefore Owen is awarded with a penalty for a collision under SC caused by a brake check from him, but some leniency is given for the fact this is clearly AI controlled.

Furthermore, the stewards undoubtedly agree that the incident is not Scopezz’s fault. However, While technically showing some reasonable evidence to suggest he doesn’t serve his penalty in the pitlane, it throws up the grey area surrounding what evidence is and is not acceptable for penalty removal. Because of this, the stewards on this occasion will not be removing the penalty, but will be lobbying for the rule to be reviewed to accept a good level of evidence presented in the way Scopezz has done, especially in cases where drivers have been disconnected from the end race lobby and thus have no chance of getting race director evidence to present to the stewards.

*Multiple Drivers* - failing to heed caution under yellow flags/failing to leave safe space to a retired car (lap 13)

Outcome: NFA for Coupe a Benz & SLR Leah, Warnings for Blaze, Fempest & Teddy, 1LP awarded to OwenHowell36 & SLR Barlow

Reasoning: After evidence submitted for another incident, it was decided by the stewards to investigate yellow flag infringements by the drivers mentioned in this incident, especially when it was signalled to all of them that Zach had retired from the race.

Leah and Benz are given no further action. Benz because the evidence the stewards could gather wasn’t conclusive of the actions Benz took to avoid the incident. Leah on the other hand must be commended for the actions he took to avoid the incident. The stewards would like to point out that a driver pulling over to the far side of the track signifies clearly to drivers behind that there is a hazard on the other side of the track. This is the kind of action that we would like to see more from other drivers in this scenario, leaving a clear safe space to retired car(s).

Blaze, Fempest, and Teddy are given warnings. Blaze is given a warning because he appears to move towards the far side of the circuit (where the incumbent Zach’s car is) in order to improve his entry to the next corner, narrowly avoiding hitting the car with his own. A penalty of 1LP only isn’t given here because the ferrari was still spinning back onto the track as he was approaching that area of the track, and he perhaps doesn’t appreciate his proximity to the car, so is given the benefit of the doubt in this case. Fempest, while still close behind, could’ve still left more of a space to the Ferrari as a signal to drivers behind. It appears that he doesn’t really react to the car much, if at all, but a warning is given to recognise the slight space he has given to the retired car, but it is reinforced that the steward would like to see more space given in future. This is similar reasoning to Teddy’s warning being given. It is noted that Teddy’s initial trajectory is right towards the stationary car, but he does dodge it at the last moment, and leaves a similar amount of space to Fempest. It is noted that it was difficult to tell when he could’ve reasonably seen the stationary car given the unknown positioning of Benz in front.

Barlow is given 1LP, because the car in front leaves him plenty of space to recognise the hazard on the other side of the track, and while he also dodges at the last second, he had plenty of warning to avoid the car given by Leah and the yellow flags. His last minute maneuver also hindered Owen’s sight of the car from behind him. Owen is given 1LP because he actually hits the stationary Ferrari. Obviously the game awards him 5 seconds to his race time for this, but the stewards felt that 1LP would be a fairer penalty given the circumstances in which that contact was caused. He was sufficiently warned of the incident by Leah pulling off to the right hand side, as well as the yellow flag warning heading into the corner, more LP weren’t issues due to not being able to clearly see where the stationary car was until very late.

**All drivers are reminded that in yellow flag zones where the incident is clear and obvious (like a retired car in the middle of the race track), that they must all make reasonable attempts to avoid the incident ahead by leaving a clear and safe space, slowing down to do so if necessary. Failure to do this will incur LP penalties in the future. Drivers are also reminded that they cannot overtake in these yellow flag zones, so leaving a clear and safe space to the hazard is a priority so that multi-car pile ups are avoided.**

SLR Leah - 5 second penalty removal (lap 23)

Outcome: 5 seconds removed for SLR Leah

Reason: As identified in incident 2, the stewards felt that the contact between Leah and Owen was Owen’s fault, meaning that with the sufficient race director evidence, Leah’s 5 seconds can be removed from his race time.

Craigfk vs SLR Scopezz - Illegal overtake under SC (lap 22)

Outcome: 10s + 2LP awarded to SLR Scopezz

Reason: The stewards felt that this was a clear exploit of a game glitch from Scopezz. The message received by him that he must overtake Craig because he is out of the race is evidently incorrect, and that Scopezz should’ve held position in this scenario because common sense should have prevailed over anything else. Craig’s car was also identified to be going at a good speed to catch the SC pack ahead, so it was highly unlikely that any “falling back” beyond the 10 car lengths notice and subsequent countdown would’ve been shown to him. It is also noted that Scopezz also did not overtake in a safe manner. Moves like that could’ve easily caused more problems for both drivers.

SLR Scopezz receives a Qualifying Ban for reaching 13 LP

OwenHowell36 receives a Warning for reaching 6LP

OwenHowell36 receives a Qualifying Ban for reaching 10LP

Onto the Hungaroring for race 13 in division 3 and it stayed dry!!! It was SLR Dolph1n that took pole position for this race with SLR Hyperz joining him on the front row. SLR Dodgy and Lofty4794 made up the second row. As the lights went out and 20 cars hurtled down the hill into turn one SLR Hyperz managed to make a move on SLR Dolph1n round T1 but behind a late braking error from SLR St20h meant that he hit the back of SLR C0w3n who then pushed into Lofty4794 who then hit the back of SLR Dodgy causing a melee of traffic and a number of spun cars that brought of the safety car despite no retirees. This pushed SLR Dodgy back from P3 into P20 with Lofty4794 also dropping places as SLR J3st3r also picked up a drive through penalty At the end of lap 1 under the safety car it was then no fewer than 10 drivers who opted to pit either for repairs or a strategy change onto the harder compound of tyres as the race leaders opted to remain on track. The end of lap 3 saw then safety car back in and SLR Hyperz got the race going again opening an immediate gap to SLR Dolph1n of 7 tenths by T1 as SLR Spr1tley took P4 from SLR Charlie. Lofty4794 being the first retiree of the race as he crashed out on the exit of T1. The end of lap 5 then saw SLR J3st3r serve his drive through penalty as he dropped from P9 into P20 as his teammate SLR Hyperz was leading with a gap of over 1 second. Lap 6 and SLR Russell who was running well in P8 had a spin off at T10 as he dropped down to P18 ahead of SLR J3st3r at the back.

By the end of the lap SLR Charlie1 in P5 decided to make a pitstop onto the harder tyres from the softs in an early strategy call that put him back in P18 when he returned as at T1 SLR Nealix lost control and spun into I21I Maxwell which then took out I Cxmzn I and also SLR C0w3n in a 4 car pile up as SLR Dodgy avoided the action to take P11 as the VSC was called. The VSC then brought race leader SLR Hyperz and SLR Gareth from P3 into the pits off the soft tyres as SLR Dolph1n took the lead of the race with SLR Spr1tley in P2 and GrumpyOrange976 up into P3. Lap 9 and SLR Hyperz on fresher tyres then made a move on SLR Colden for P7 at T1 as race leader SLR Dolph1n made his pitstop at the end of lap 10 moving SLR Spr1tley into the lead ahead of grumpyOrange976 and SLR Stevooo. As lap 10 started Scott85laney in P4 was disqualified for ignoring a drive through penalty as SLR Hyperz moved up into P4 with X J Geddes X up into P5. Lap 11 and SLR Hyperz made a move into P3 on SLR Stevooo at T2 and SLR Dodgy made a move on X J Geddes X into P6 at the start of lap 12 and was chasing SLR Colden down. Race leader SLR Spr1tley then came into the pits moving GrumpyOrange976 into the race lead as SLR Hyperz was now back up into P2 with GrumpyOrange976 still to pit. Lap 13 then saw a 3-car train for P3 as SLR Stevooo was being hunted down by both SLR Colden and SLR Dodgy. Lap 16 and SLR Gareth took P8 from SLR St20h and SLR Dolph1n then took P9 at Turns 1 and 2.

Lap17 and SLR Hyperz regained the lead as GrumpyOrange976 made his stop with SLR Stevooo into P2 and SLR Colden into P3 with SLR Dodgy breathing down SLR Colden`s neck. At the end of lap 18 SLR Stevooo came into the pits which meant SLR Dodgy now had the DRS advantage on SLR Colden who was now up into P2. Lap 20 then saw SLR Dodgy make his move into P2 at T1 as SLR colden dropped into P3 with SLR Hyperz now nearly 13s ahead. Lap 21 and a new train was formed for P3 as SLR Colden was being chased down by SLR Nealix, SLR Gareth and SLR Dolph1n. Lap 22 then saw SLR Nealix make a move into P3 past his teammate SLR Colden at T1 with SLR Gareth trying at T2 up the inside only to have the door shut firmly by SLR Colden using the division 3 elbows. SLR Dolph1n who was in P6 fighting at the back of the train then spun off at T8 allowing SLR Spr1tley and SLR Charlie1 up into P6 and P7. Lap 25 then saw SLR Gareth make his move on SLR Colden at T1 into P4 with SLR Spr1tely chasing them both down. The end of lap 26 then saw SLR Nealix in P3 spin off into the barrier which then promoted SLR Gareth into P3 and SLR Colden up into P4 as we were reaching the final stages of the race. Lap 29 and SLR Spr1tely then made his way into P4 as SLR Colden suffered wheel connection issues and crashed out at T8 ending his race bringing out the VSC.

SLR Dodgy in P2 then opted to pit under VSC for soft tyres and picked up a penalty for speeding. SLR Gareth then went into P2 and SLR Charlie1 into P3 with SLR Dodgy re-joining in P4. Lap 32 and SLR Dodgy took P3 from SLR Charlie1 but had to find 11seconds in the last 4 laps to have any chance of a podium on the soft tyres. By lap 35 SLR Dodgy could only open a 10.8s gap meaning at the end it was a win for SLR Hyperz, SLR Gareth took P2 and SLR Charlie1 snatched a P3 podium. SLR Dodgy was P4, X J Geddes X P5, SLR J3st3r P6, grumpyOrange976 P7, SLR Stevooo P8, I21I Maxwell P9 and SLR C0w3n P10.

Incident- Multiple Drivers vs s2toh - Lap 1

Outcome - 20 second penalty and 6LP to s2toh

Reason - Misses his braking point by a huge amount and hits into c0wan which causes several drivers to receive wing damage. The additional 2 license points have been added on as J3st3r also received 2 extra license points for a similar incident in Azerbaijan.

Incident - Maxwell vs Nealix - Lap 7

Outcome - 15 second penalty and 3LP to Nealix.

Reason - Nealix loses control of his car and hits maxwell which leads to a multi car collision.

Incident - Maxwell vs c0wan - Lap 7

Outcome - Warning and 2LP to c0w3n

Reason - c0w3n misses his braking point and has to dive down the inside to avoid hitting maxwell, maxwell also regains the position immediately and is unaffected by the dive bomb so we haven’t awarded c0w3n the normal time penalty.
