The 5th round of the SLR F2 season got underway in Silverstone, bringing the usual British weather and a washout in qualifying. But that wouldn’t stop BRT Griffiths taking pole position with the Rodin Carlin of SLR Corey alongside. Coupe a Benz would be flying in that DAMS and would qualify 3rd.
SLR Darnell would be on reverse grid pole hoping to return to the top step for the first time in a long time. We got underway for the first race of the weekend and Darnell was returning to the driver we all remember, flying out in front showing that even with a little one to keep him busy nowadays, he knows how to make a Dallara F2 car dance around silverstone. His brother SLR Southerner would put the pressure on but Darnell would continue to hold off. An incident for BRT Griffiths and SLR Corey would hamper their progress up the field. The ever improving SLR Mash who opted to start on the Softs due to rain forecast for the end would the gamble pay off? The rain came but not quick enough for SLR Mash as his tyres died out but nothing was killing the battle for the win between Darnell and Southerner and in the end it was SLR Darnell who would win the sprint race at Silverstone returning to the top step in sublime fashion, with his brother completing a Darnell 1-2. SLR Dodgy would round out the podium for Virtuosi, getting his elbows out in the closing stages and showing with a few pints it is possible to get on the podium.
The feature of course saw Griffiths and Corey on the front row and with Griffiths getting the better launch and pulling a gap instantaneously. Darnell after a great sprint race did his best Kimi Raikkonen impression going down the Wellington straight which saw him drop out of the points. Coupe a Benz and Corey would scrap it out for 2nd in the early stages but the Rodin Carlin of Corey would win out that battle just holding off the DAMS of Benz. The pit stops came around and with drivers being held in the pitlane SLR Southerner would undercut his way up to a net 3rd place, slotting in behind SLR Corey. A late saftey car would neutralise the race and we would get a 2 lap sprint race to the chequered flag. BRT Griffiths would set off into the sunset but the main battle was for the final podium position. Southerner struggling from the restart was very much under pressure from his teammate Benz and SLR Medal. Benz would get his way through and Southerner would try all he could to hold Medal off to the end. In the end it was BRT Griffiths who would cruise home to yet another victory, SLR Xorey would finish runner up once again still hunting for a first victory of the season, Coupe a benz would round out the podium after a stunning drive to hold off the charging pack behind. SLR Southerner finishes 4th completing a fantastic weekend for him and DAMS.
Griffiths extends his championship lead once again to 57 points over SLR Medal but SLR Southerner after a great weekend would close the gap to 3 points off Medal now. A very strong weekend for Coupe A Benz would see him shoot up to 8th in the standings, hopefully he can keep up this form heading into his home race next week in Hungary. DAMS were the top scorers this round after Southerner picking up 2nd in the sprint and 4th in the feature and Coupe a Benz finishing 3rd in the feature race. DAMS really taking the fight to VAR and now tied with MP on 113 for 2nd in the Constructors championship.
Next time our we head to the Hungaroring where it has gave us some timeless races in the past and 3 seasons ago where we announced SLR Liamm would be having a child, which he still yet to have.
Until then, have a great week everyone
As you were, CM x
