Guess who's back! F1 Bahrain

Updated: Jan 24

McKeon Division

Medal will be back with reports from next week, but Sunday showed an incredible race that I would definitely recommend watching back if you haven't already, including a 5 car battle for the lead in the final laps!

Congratulations to SLR Corey who came out on top, followed by Adzzz37 x, SLR Ham19, Ryan Cox & JagerUK - all putting on a stellar display to finish in the Top 5.

Incident involving FGE Jacob and FRC Finlay - no further action/racing incident.

Classic case of lap 1, turn 1 with multiple cars going for the same bit of track. Jacob is unlucky but Finlay isn’t the only driver to make contact with another car resulting in his spin.

Incident involving FGE Jacob and FRC Finlay - 5 second penalty and 1 licence point for FRC Finlay for an illegal overtake. Contact at turn 1 initiated by Finlay allows him to get a far better exit and breeze past Jacob, this is effectively an illegal overtake and as the position wasn’t given back a 5 second penalty is awarded.

Division 2

As the sun set over the Bahrain International Circuit, a sense of anticipation hung in the air. The beginning of Season 12 for the SLR Division 2 was upon us, promising a spectacle of speed and skill. With drivers randomly assigned to teams, the stage was set for a fresh start. The reigning champion, Scar B0rga, had ascended to higher grounds, leaving the throne vacant. Eyes were on UKBeastAssassin, the near-miss champion of last season, and PxrpHaze, the rising star from Div 3. The buzz was palpable as the drivers geared up for the first race of the new season.

Qualifying

The qualifying session was a masterclass in precision and nerve. With the desert track offering a challenging blend of heat and speed, Ski Fee emerged as the man to beat, clocking a blistering 1:28.776 and snatching the pole position in a thrilling finale. OwenHowell, known for his raw pace but lack of consistency, followed closely, showcasing his intent for the season. The top 17 drivers were separated by a mere seven-tenths, setting the tone for a closely contested race. Notable performances included PxrpHaze, proving she belongs in this division, and SLR Liamm, who seemed to struggle in the first sector but managed to clinch a strong position.

Race

As the lights went out, the Bahrain GP burst into life. The early laps were characterized by intense jostling for position. A notable incident at Turn 1 involved minor contact between MasseyF1 and SLR Liamm of McLaren, setting an aggressive tone for the race. THATGUY, driving for AlphaTauri, unfortunately mirrored Grosjean's infamous misfortune, almost crashing out on the exit of Turn 2.

Ski Fee, in the Williams, capitalized on his pole position, quickly establishing a lead of 1.2 seconds. Pricey, substituting for SLR Darnell in the Aston Martin, made an impressive surge, gaining five positions in the opening lap. Meanwhile, FRL Kirito of Ferrari and SotierClock each made up three and four places, respectively.

As the race settled, strategic maneuvers and overtakes became the highlight. On Lap 4, PxrpHaze in the AlfaRomeo made a remarkable move on OwenHowell of AlphaTauri for 2nd place at Turn 1, showcasing her skill without the need for DRS. A dramatic moment unfolded when SLR Liamm of McLaren collided with FRL Kirito at Turn 12, causing the Ferrari driver to spin and drop to 11th.

Adrian VIII decided for an early pit stop, switching to hard tyres at the end of Lap 5, a move that would later influence his race strategy. Legend began to find his rhythm, advancing to 4th place – clearly a very different driver to his sluggish start last season!

A crucial moment in the race occurred when UKBeastAssassin and F1ABQWERTY engaged in a scuffle, adding to the list of on-track battles. Lap 10 brought a turning point with Legend spinning at Turn 2, triggering the deployment of a Virtual Safety Car. Ski Fee took this opportunity to pit, a decision that played a significant role in his race strategy.

The climax of the race was packed with drama. The late appearance of the Safety Car compressed the field, setting up a gripping conclusion. Ski Fee, leading the race in his Williams, was now under threat from PxrpHaze, who was right on his tail.

As racing resumed, the contest for podium positions intensified. Massey executed a pivotal move, overtaking SLR Liamm of McLaren for third place, showcasing his racing acumen.

In the final laps, OwenHowell, despite earlier challenges, demonstrated his speed with yet another a bold overtake at Turn 8, moving up to 6th place.

As the race drew to a close, Ski Fee managed to hold off PxrpHaze, crossing the line first in a thrilling finish. Massey completed an impressive race to take the third spot on the podium. The battle for lower points positions was fierce, highlighting the competitive spirit of SLR Division 2.

This race was a showcase of strategic brilliance, daring overtakes, and unexpected developments, setting a thrilling precedent for the rest of Season 12 in SLR Division 2.

The podium finishers reflected on a race filled with surprises and challenges. Massey expressed delight at his unforeseen podium finish, PxrpHaze contemplated her strong performance and its implications for the season, and Ski Fee humbly acknowledged the unexpected victory in a tightly packed division.

Incident involving Beast and QW3RTY - 5 second penalty and 1 licence point to QW3RTY for spinning another car.

Incident involving FRL Kirito and SLR Liam - null and void for not following the correct ticket format. This was made abundantly clear to all drivers plus Kirito was contacted to correct this and did not do so. [Appealed - see Report]

Incident involving Kirito, Zach, Adrian, Kirito, Marsh and Moley - no further action. No one driver is in the wrong more than any other here. Unlucky collision to cause Moley and Marsh to DNF.

Incident involving PrxpHaze and OwenHowell36 - racing incident. PrxpHaze is alongside Owen so a move is just, even with PrxpHaze going deep into the corner. It’s then unfortunate that Owen gets damage on the exit of the corner.

Incident involving Massey - no further action. The amount of time gained (if any) was minuscule. There is also no way of us telling how many of the warnings Massey had accumulated up to this point were for track limits.

Division 3

Division 3 was back with a bang under the lights in Bahrain with wheel to wheel action up and down the grid, with legendarydannyd taking pole from badotterTV by 5 one thousandth of a second; they lined up on the front row.

A mid race safety car poised to throw a spanner in the works as the top 3 jostled for position meanwhile the rest of the field fought for the remaining points places, until another safety car at the end shuck up the field with most drivers opting to pit for soft tyres which left a 4 way battle for the top step of the podium and wheel to wheel action across the rest of the field to decide the points places.
