With three races to go we head to Brazil where it hosts a track that never fails to disappoint. The nature of the track brings the pack close together which gives the names from the lower divisions the chance to fight it with the big guys. Here we are for round eleven!
One Shot Quali! That man again! Crispy is in the form of his life and very good timing also. Another pole position just pipping reserve driver Midzy15. Crispys championship rival SLR Darnell had to settle for fourth just behind SLR Corey on his full time debut. SLR Dodgy in ninth was your best Evo Qualifier.
The Sprint! We had an Evo Class front row! For the first time in his F2 Career BcFc Josh starts on reverse grid pole alongside SLR Dodgy. J Lee Menz and MasonGammon were on row two. For the first lap it was as you were right at the very front. UKBeastAssassin had made a great start up to third as well as SLR Corey who found great early pace to make up four places into fourth. Lap three it seemed a lot happened with a J Lee Menz spin followed by a retirement from Division and OwenHowell36 who a few seconds earlier spun after contact with PrimusGaming. Due to all this we had a safety car and we resumed racing at lap seven. A poor restart from Beast meant the top two of Josh and Dodgy were able to have a comfy gap. It was all happening back in eighth where SLR Bennett was frustrating Midzy who both had a fantastic battle which was later joined by MasonGammon. SLR Dodgy would take the lead from Josh and it got worse for the Carlin driver who spun following contact with SLR Darnell trying to defend second place. It was a showdown between SLR Dodgy and UKBeast for the win. Behind in third it was a battle between four!Those being Darnell, Corey, Southerner and Crispy. With almost a lap to go Dodgy spins! The wait goes on for a podium and a win was on! This resulted in UKBeastAssassin taking his fifth SLR F2 win. Darnell takes second just ahead of SLR Corey. SLR Southerner took fourth after fending off the threat of Crispy in aid of his brothers championship hopes. Midzy claimed a sixth with Dodgy having to settle for a seventh with the Evo Sprint win and MasonGammon takes the final points spot in eighth.
The Feature! Away we went and immediately Crispy got a comfortable gap which was crucial. The fighting in second between Midzy, Darnell and Corey meant the championship leader ended up with a three second lead just two laps in! The fighting in second would further continue. We saw moves from the Trident of MasonGammon who was the only driver in the top ten to start on the softs who took the places of Southerner and UKBeast a few laps after. With the threat of rain all but a select few on the grid opted for the medium tyres for the start incase wet weather tyres were needed. Impressibly Gammon was able to stretch the softs for fifteen laps! Lap fourteen the rain falls and we see the first drivers to blink. Southerner the first with Midzy and UKBeast following a lap later. Crispy and Darnell wouldnt pit until lap nineteen which ultimately cost the HWA driver a few places but for Crispy because of his early race pace still had a big enough gap in the lead despite a speeding in the pit lane penalty. In what is another step closer towards the F2 title Crispy wins again! Midzy takes second with Darnell in third after Corey drops a place following a penalty. UKBeast pips Southerner to fifth. Then we have a gap to seventh where SLR Dodgy takes the Evo Feature win. MasonGammon made it a double points finish in eighth with BcFc Josh in ninth and Ads040 provisionally scoring his first ever F2 point in tenth making it potentially three Evo drivers scoring official Formula 2 points.
Next week for the first time we head to Saudi Arabia where it could prove to be a big round for both Championship contenders Crispy and Darnell. Its possible for both Crispy and DAMS to secure their titles next week but SLR Formula 2 is far from straight forward…..is there another twist round the corner?
