We’re back home for round 8 of the season around the iconic Silverstone. Qualifying was another close one between the two who gave us some enthralling action last time out with SLR Corey taking his 7th pole of the season with Griffiths not too far behind. Evoke replays would be on reverse grid pole after qualifying P10 with OwenHowell alongside for Trident.
The sprint would get underway with a 3 wide crash into T1 with BRT Griffiths, SemmF1 and SLR Ham19 coming together with the Carlin and the virtuosi taking most of the pain. But the 1st lap chaos wasn’t over just yet, going into Brooklands the two drivers who were on the front row (Evoke Replays & OwenHowell) would collide and would see Owen lose out heavily. 1st lap gainers though were SLR Corey from 10th to 3rd and Para Quickz from 11th to 4th. Corey wouldn’t wait around long getting past Evoke Replays and race leader UKBeastAssassin a lap later with the assistance of DRS. An early departure for the reining evo champion SLR Charlie would bring out the safety car and now with the race being neutralised it brings everyone back in play. Back underway for the last time in the sprint and Griffiths would get the first overtake done of the restart sliding past Evoke Replays and then passing the ART of SLR Medal and getting himself into the top 5. SLR Corey would come out victorious for virtuosi with a stunning drive from 10th to the victory and taking the fastest lap in the process. UKBeastAssassin would take the runner up spot with Benster rounding out the podium A great race for two of the evo drivers of Menz and Evoke Replays taking P7 & P8 respectively.
The feature is underway with Griffiths getting his usual mega getaway and taking the leading before even reaching the first corner. For the second race in a row contact between Semm and Ham would see the virtuosi of Semm round and down to the back ☹ End of lap 1 though Griffiths and Corey would remain out in front with Ham close behind but on the softer compound. Great opening laps from J Lee Menz going from 18th to 12th. Lap 3 and Griffiths vs Corey is back again, Corey would slide up the inside going through luffield and heading into copse the championship leader was back in the lead of the race. Turner would close up to medal towards copse and as we all know these are critical corner for this grand prix, Turner had a look down the inside of Medal, but they touched an both cars would go round, and both of their chances of a potential podium was over. Charlie on his return having a great race, from 15th and up to P7 and scrapping for p6 with his former teammate at ART, SLR Medal. Griffiths and Corey would make their stops with Griffiths able to undercut Corey in doing so but the risk is can he make the tyres last? Well lap 11/15 they’re gonna battle it out for the lead again but down the hangar straight Corey retakes the lead from Griffiths. But to complete the perfect F2 weekend SLR Corey wins the feature race with a great drive with BRT Griffiths trying all he can but the tyres giving up on him. Benster would take the final podium position for Carlin fighting teammate Ham all the way to the line. Another great race for Charlie and Menz in the evo class as they finish 7th and 10th more points for them.
39 points available and 39 points for SLR Corey from this weekend as he extends his championship lead over Ham by a lengthy margin of 74 points with Carlin lead at the top of the constructors now down to 12 points to Virtousi.
Next time out we head to the SPA and hopefully we won’t have any of our drivers ending in a hospital bed.
