We leave what was a rain filled Australia weekend to the dunes of the desert of Bahrain where in qualifying it would be SLR Corey getting back-to-back poles in season 7 and back-to-back poles in Bahrain, hoping to potentially take the championship lead come the end of the weekend.
The man who had an excellent first weekend of season 7, Shutmedal would be on reverse grid pole. A great start from the ART of Shutmedal would see him hold onto the lead with Owen Howell making his way up to 12th on the opening lap gaining 7 positions. Contact between Griffiths and Corey would see the Virtuosi of Corey plummet down to 20th and last. Benster would begin showing his true pace climbing up to 2nd and closing on race leader Shutmedal and making his way past the ART driver and into the lead in 3 laps!!! Ham and Griffiths would battle out for 2nd with the MP driver Griffiths passing Jam into T4 and sliding his way into 2nd gaining 7 positions after starting 9th. But absolutely nothing was going to get in the way of Benster winning the sprint race showing exceptional pace with Griffiths coming home 2nd and Ham taking another podium finishing 3rd, SLR Corey with a mega recovery drive after being last at the end of lap 1 would come home 4th and with fastest lap.
The feature race would get underway with a great start from 2nd place man Griffiths taking the lead into turn 1 with Corey having to defend from Jam and Benster behind. Griffiths and Corey would begin to clear off from the rest of the pack in front with Benster and Jam battling out for 3rd. A very early safety car on lap 4 of 16 would see most of the drivers pit, drivers starting on the Hards going onto softs it would be impossible to make it to the end surely? Owen and Menz thought this and decided to stay out and hope. Griffiths and Benster would make light work of Menz and Owen but Corey it would a bit of a tougher challenge losing time in the progress, however with Benster and Griffiths battling, Corey would get back within DRS. Lap 11 comes around and race leader Griffiths comes into the pits! He couldn’t take the softs to the end, and Benster would follow him a lap later. SLR Corey deciding to stay out and try and take his softs to the chequered flag. UKBeastAssassin and Shutmedal’s hards were coming to life with the soft runners pitting around them or their tyres just dying out. Beast would fight Para Quickz all the way to the line but the Prema of Para would hold onto 2nd with Beast 3rd and Shutmedal with a brilliant drive to finish P5!! But cruising home was SLR Corey on those 12 lap old softs to win the feature race and to take the lead at the top of the drivers championship. 4 different winners in 4 races, can that continue going into Jeddah?
Blogs driver of the round: Shutmedal; Despite not being the quickest out on track Shutmedal took every single opportunity that came his way this weekend and came P4 in the overall results with 2 brilliant drives.
See you all next Thursday as we head to the Jeddah Cheese Circuit
As you were, CM x
