Spa

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to yet another race report. This past weekend across all divisions, drivers raced around the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps! Beginning with elite, let’s dive into the results and see who came out on top!

ABR Freeman took his fourth win of the season after getting lucky with a perfectly timed VSC that allowed him to gain 4 seconds after the round of pit stops. Pressure from the HamJam brothers followed in the closing laps, but Freeman was able to claim the victory (his first without ABS). Xx JamHam xX recovered from 4th to come home 2nd, extending his championship lead further. HamJam2002 wasn’t able to convert pole to victory, settling for third in the end after battling with Freeman in the early stages of the race. V2 X Combat earned his first points of the season, making the alternate strategy work to gain 8 positions from his starting spot of 4th. gh03t C0LT bounced back from Hungary to finish another solid 5th, with Flembog and SLR Niki behind him in 6th and 7th. ZyDRAD brought his Merc home in 8th, with UKBeastAssassin and bezzas1 rounding out our top 10.

PaRa Quickz dropped to outside of the top 10 after a post race penalty to finish in 11th, with SLR Southerner adding a 12th place finish to his season, outracing his teammate Hoopolicious after disconnecting. TommyReal made his SLR debut, finishing 14th after being involved in an incident, with KevinGT9389 rounding out our finishers in 15th, taking the fastest lap (and SLR lap record) around Spa. Our non-finishers were: Sync Rayner (also making his Elite debut), raceroller22, BDunk, and LP Smoke.

That does it for the elite report this week! Next week, we head to Italy, a track I am sure many are looking forward to. Stay well everyone, and enjoy the rest of the report!

Stewards Report:

Zydrad vs UKBeastassassin

Lap 4 UKBeastassassin - 5 seconds 1 LP

We feel the move was late but warrants more space.

Bezzas vs para quickz

Lap 9 Para quickz - 5 seconds 1 LP

We feel the move was late but warrants more space.

Raceroller vs sync rayner

Lap 22 Sync rayner - 30 seconds 3 LP* (Converted to Quali Ban and 5LP due to DNF, see announcements for clarification)

Sync rayner unfortunately gets his tyres on the grass causing him to have to correct his car and in doing so has seen him come across the track and puts himself and roller into the barriers.

The Division 1 season would stop in the thick Ardenne forest for the Belgian Grand Prix, one of the World’s most famous race tracks, where high speeds and sweeping corners challenge Formula One’s finest machinery, the engines echoing through the Belgian wood. Eau Rouge, Pouhon, Stavelot, Blanchimont are just four iconic corners that made up the longest circuit on the calendar, a track that played host to the next round of the Season 6 championship Qualifying here in Belgium was a ridiculously close encounter between the two Mercedes of SillyBunny47711 and Babatunde Sr, and McLaren’s SLR Semm as they established themselves as pacesetters all through qualifying, and in Q3, they all made their pace matter. SillyBunny47711 was the man who found the limits and the time to take pole position with a 1:41.449. SLR Semm would share the front row after being +0.036 off the pole time and Babatunde Sr was +0.041 and the top 3, if there was any slim improvement or mistake, it could have had a whole new complexion. A nominated shout goes to SLR debutant TIR Jason, who qualified a solid P4, +0.159 behind. Championship leader BrindyBoi67 misses out on Q3 after a time that saw him qualify 12th at best and Renault driver Riggsey x, who claimed his first pole at the Hungaroring last time out, risked it and starts at the back of the grid after failing to put a time on the board.

The race start sees everyone rush into the tight La Source hairpin and it is so easy to create chaos into the hard braking zone, but as the lights went out and the race was underway in the cold, overcast conditions, everybody made way into T1 and set themselves up as SillyBunny47711 maintained the advantage coming off the exit as everybody bunched up through the hairpin and contact was made, with some carbon fibre shedding off some of the front wings, hindering strategies and shaping up the next 21 laps of the race for some. The race start couldn’t have been worse for ARL PReDaToRZz as he jumps the start, and for both Renault drivers, SotierClock110 and SLR Vandoorne as they all looked to make ground from the back, but they would lose out and be playing catch up. SillyBunny47711 continued to lead from Babatunde Sr, a Mercedes 1-2 off the start set them in the strongest position going forward after the start. TIR Jason lost out on the opening laps and was the biggest loser in terms of track position by lap 5. The Mercedes battle at the front looked to be a brilliant execution of keeping the other in the DRS and trying to break away from the pack. The McLaren of SLR Semm driving in P3 keeping with them, but after the stops, it was SLR McKeon and CechThisOut chasing down the two Mercedes, with the McLaren driver slipping into a net P5.

The late charge for the win was amplified as SLR McKeon would try and continue the hot streak and close the gap to the Mercedes, but a late spin at Pouhon hampered his chances as it allowed the Ferrari of CechThisOut to have a shot and try split the silver arrows. SLR Semm would begin to go backwards on the second stint as the race began to reach a boiling point. The chequered flag would wave on the end of Lap22 to bring SillyBunny47711 home for his first race win of the season and a solid points haul for himself and his championship aspirations, but the battle for second would see Babatunde and Cech battle it out for the whole of the final 2 laps, but Babatunde Sr would hold on to complete the Mercedes 1-2 with CechThisOut in P3 for Ferrari, as all three drivers made a statement of intent in terms of championship position going forward. BrindyBoi67 recovered well to take a P5 after penalties, Riggsey x with damage limitation in P7 after a P17 start and SLR Semm dropping out of the points on penalties. The driver of the day was SillyBunny47711 for getting the pole position, and having a well-executed pitstop and strong teamplay would see him bag his first win of the season and strengthen his position in the championship.

In Division Two this week we were looking for a vast improvement on Hungary’s shambles. This week seemed just as carnage, so I doubt it will be long until the admins take action on repeat drivers with unacceptable racecraft.

Anyways pole was taken by one of 5 debutants this week, being TRC AlfieDK. Xx Allen xX7679 started alongside, with the two Renaults behind.

After some trouble overtaking those on alternate strategies, the pole man slipped down the order, whilst the other 3 succeeded. Those 3 would then take the podium, with Xx Allen xX7679 taking his first SLR win! craigfk regained the championship lead in P2, whilst rockamad73 took the final podium spot.

Scopezz vs Zachisbeast - Brake check/Poor Racecraft (lap 22)

Outcome: NFA

Reason: The wing damage that Scopezz receives is down to himself driving into the back of Zach’s car, as he’s still trying to pull up at the bus stop chicane on worn tyres. On the exit, an oversteer moment leads to contact but has no bearing on the final result across the line.

Peanut - Readying up early

Outcome: 5LP and a qualifying ban awarded to peanut

Reason: Clear breach of rules regarding 5 min break

Fempest vs TTM Chizu & J Lee Menz

Outcome: 15s + 3LP awarded to J Lee Menz AND 2LP Awarded to TTM Chizu

Reason: The penalty awarded is for Full wing damage, however no full penalty is awarded given it is not solely one drivers fault. The stewards feel that Menz takes the majority of the blame for this as he puts his car into a gap that was always going to close between 2 cars, and he wasn’t alongside enough on the Haas to expect space. The Trajectory of both the Mercedes and the Haas in this scenario meant that unless Menz got right alongside both cars, it was mainly his responsibility to back out of it all. However, the Stewards also recognised the role that Chizu played in initiating the incident also. His 2 LPs are awarded for drifting across the track while also being aware that both the Red Bull and Mercedes are to his left. He could have moved his car marginally to the right to avoid being the catalyst in the reaction, and avoided the incident all together.

Onto the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in the woodland of Stavelot in Division 3 for Race 14 and with several full-time drivers missing it gave race opportunities to a number of reserves for their debuts in SLR. It was debutant Unrealsalmon590 that took a maiden pole position with SLR Gareth in P2 on the grid. Another debutant Jackcgb27 made it into P3 on the grid while Lofty4794 made up the second row. Lap 1 and all drivers appeared to make a clean start as Lofty4794 took the lead from Unrealsalmon590 at T6 with SLR Gareth dropping into P4. An incident at the back of the field involving I Cxmzn I at the end of the Kemmel straight did however bring out an immediate safety car. Lap 4 before the race got underway again as Unrealsalmon590 led the field across the line with Jackcgb27 in P2 and I21I Maxwell in P3. Once again Unrealsalmon590 losing P1 at the end of the Kemmel straight as Jackcgb27 made a move into P1. Into Pouhon and SLR J3st3r took the inside line for a move into P3 and had to brake to avoid contact with I21I Maxwell who took no regard of SLR J3st3r being on the inside and turned into him causing him to spin. Lofty4794 then made a great move round the outside of SLR Spr1tley into the bus stop chicane to take P9 and almost had a double overtake with a chance of taking SLR C0w3n at the same time. SLR Spr1tley fights back to take the place back as the pair fight down towards Eau Rouge with Lofty4794 coming out better off through Raidillon as SLR Spr1tley made an error.

Lofty4794 then made another move on X J Geddes X into Les Combes making up 2 places within a sector. Lap 5 and SLR Russell spun out just after Pouhon with SLR Stevooo spinning off just 2 corners later both dropping to the back of the field. Lap 6 and GrumpyOrange976 made a move up into P3 on the Kemmel straight as another debutant TypicalSwift spun at Raidillon. I Cxmzn I was then fighting for P9 with X J Geddes X at Blanchimont and lost the back of the car spinning off the track and did well to not collect anyone else at one of the fastest parts of the circuit. Lap 7 then brought a second safety car as SLR Russell ended his race at Raidillon which would then see the early 3 second lead of Jackcgb27 cut back with the pack being bunched back up. The safety car then saw no fewer than 6 drivers come in for tyre changes including race leader Jackcgb27 and second placed Unrealsalmon590 with I21I Maxwell taking the race lead with Lofty4794 in P2. Lap 10 and the race restarted as I21I Maxwell and Lofty4794 were battling close into T1 and the battle continued up along the Kemmel straight as Lofty4794 managed to take P1 at Les Combes with Jackcgb27 following close behind in P3. Jackcgb27 did manage to take P2 with a move on I21I Maxwell at the bus stop chicane and could set his sights on Lofty4794 as we approached half race distance.

Lap 11 and another safety car was called out as Typicalswift became the second victim of Raidillon as race leader Lofty4794 opted to pit putting Jackcgb27 into the lead of the race with Unrealsalmon590 in P2 and SLR Colden was up into P3. Lap 14 and underway again as Jackcgb27 lead the field once again as SLR J3st3r made a move on SLR Nealix round T1 into P4 as the pair continued a battle into Eau Rouge and Raidillon with SLR J3st3r coming out on top. A mistake from SLR Nealix brought GrumpyOrange976 into play as he made a pass at Les Combes into P5. Drama then unfolded round Les Fagnes as I Cxmzn I made a move past X J Geddes X at Pouhon only to be late into the first turn at Les Fagnes, then hit the kerb on the left hander and spun out of control. This caused evasive action from X J Geddes X which then caused Lofty4794 to hit the rear of X J Geddes X and as X J Geddes X retuned to the racing line for Campus he and Lofty4794 made contact and both went off the track. Lap 15 saw SLR J3st3r make it up into P3 past SLR Colden as another safety car was called as Unrealsalmon580 crashed out at Blanchimont giving SLR J3st3r a chance to pit as SLR Colden was now up into P2. As we approached the end on lap 19 SLR Gareth crashed out at Les Combes dropping from P10 to P16 as Jackcgb27 now had almost a 3 second gap at the front with SLR Colden in P2 and GrumpyOrange976 in P3.

Some further drama then unfolded at the bustop chicane as SLR Charlie collided with the rear of SLR C0w3n and then SLR J3st3r contacted SLR C0w3n trying to enter the pitlane while I21I Maxwell crashed out at Blanchimont ending his race. Lap 21 and GrumpyOrange976 looked to try and make a pass on SLR Colden at Malmedy looking for a tight gap on the inside only to lose control and spin out taking his chances of a podium away. At the chequered flag it was debutant Jackcgb27 who took a maiden victory, SLR Colden took P2 and SLR Nealix made up the podium. SLR Spr1tley took P4 and his first points of the season, SLR Stevooo P5, SLR Charlie1 P6, SLR Gareth P7, X J Geddes X was P8, Aflyinglemon took his first point in P9 & I Cxmzn I was P10.

Cxmzn vs Laney - Lap 1

Outcome - 15 seconds and 3LP to Laney.

Reason - Laney misses his braking point and hits Cxmzn which causes him to spin.

C0w3n vs Stevo - Lap 15

Outcome - No further action.

Reason - Stevoo has to take a comprised line round the corner which means he has to brake in a corner you normally wouldn’t need to. The reason we haven’t given a penalty is C0w3n was able to avoid him and didn’t lose any positions.

J3st3r vs Maxwell - Lap 4

Outcome - 10 Seconds and 2 LP to Maxwell.

Reason - J3st3r goes for a move then realises that he isn’t far enough ahead to make the move and tries to back out, however maxwell takes the normal racing line and leaves no regard for J3st3r on the inside. A reduced penalty has been given as the nature of the corner and it’s difficult to go side by side through it.

Please note that DavYoFav is disqualified from the race as he disconnects but then never joins back.
